From yesterday's solar eclipse - where I live it was partial eclipse, 77% coverage at peak. The cicadas and birds stopped singing and it became quiet as it neared the peak.
Solar filter attached to XF100-400 w/ 1.4x converter. Baseball cap over the lens in between shooting just as a precaution.

Here's the composite: base image was taken with 5DsR + TSE-17L to allow for capturing the sky without having to aim up.

Regarding my 56mm..

here are some RAF files.. some taken today in better conditions .. i'm not sure what to think since my return period is coming to an end I'm not sure If my mind is messing with me and i'm obsessing and seeing more than whats actually there

The first 4 I took today , all at iso 200 and used higher shutter speeds to make sure there are no camera shake issues.. from f1.2 to f5.6.. and of very distant subjects

https://www.dropbox.com …jov6hix/DSCF1761.RAF?dl=0 (external link)
https://www.dropbox.com …iqxw21p/DSCF1762.RAF?dl=0 (external link)
https://www.dropbox.com …o0w2ivw/DSCF1772.RAF?dl=0 (external link)
https://www.dropbox.com …4x6mohp/DSCF1780.RAF?dl=0 (external link)

These two are of closer subjects .. I don't think I have any issues here

https://www.dropbox.com …g5ej34i/DSCF1711.RAF?dl=0 (external link)

anyway , a couple of you guys mentioned that previously posted pics looked soft , environmental conditions could have been a factor .. and then doesn't flickr mess a bit with pics..
so since it was suggested before .. here are some dropbox links..
IF someone could please take a moment to look at them , some , all or just one .. my return period is coming to an end and I just want to make sure I don't have a dud
any input would be really appreciated

With the most updated firmware it's not bad In a studio environment. Before the update it was quite slow and unreliable. Outdoors it's not as reliable for my style and I prefer single point over eye af.

The eye af is not as consistent as the Sony if you are comparing the two.

I messed around a bit with the eye AF last night.. finding it reliable enough for headshots IF I choose right or left eye

but yeah not on par with sony;s eye AF,.. hopefully something that will continue to improve in the future

The foliage definitely looks soft in those -? Lets start from the beginning, put camera on a tripod to eliminate any shake. try a different lens in the same scene. Try to pick a subject where your focusing can be verified, in the bridge shot for instance, I would be aiming at the water so its hard to say if you hit focus or not ( my X Pro1 would miss focus on the most high contrast images ). I can take a few shots of a similar scenario tomorrow if you wish, I only use my 56/1.2 for portraits of the kids so have no images to compare.

Hey thanks for your input.. and offer to take comparison photos ..
I've decided to return the lens to play it on the safe side.
To begin with , when I recievd the lens , that very moment I opened the box (which look a bit like it had been around) and unwrapped the lens my first thought was .. "why 's it dusty?.. and is that a finger smudge on the barrel? "
so theres already been some suspicion that it was a return, that got rerouted to me ..
and now this sharpness not being what I thought it would be ... well i'll never feel comfortable with it
so for peace of mind its going back , label printed shipping out tomorrow ..
thanks again..
and to all who took the time to look:-)

Spent my last vacation working on the house and backyard. Nothing special just a quick shot last night with the 16mm f1.4

Probably doing the right there, you'd always have a doubt if you didn't return it.

Finally got my hands on a 50-140. My buddy let me borrow his for a wedding I have over the weekend.

I am very impressed so far, fast focusing in low light and pleasant bokeh for a tele. Its a bit heavy for mirrorless but at that focal range it is expected.

Camera porn is apparently hard on the wallet :P

Today I just updated my primary system :)

Certainly wished Canadian prices were cheap like my friends over the border for this Canon body.
