Suggestions for Wyoming and Hawaii Trips

Ya if I had Sony I'd definately want the 12-24. With the IBIS that seems like the perfect wide angle and it's a sharp little bugger too. When it was released I was amazed at the size.

One thought was to sell the wifes sytem and get her the A7RII and some 1.8 glass and the 24-240. That would basically mimic what she has and give her the best IQ available on the sensor department.

You got all of them but the last one: a Leica-R 180/3.4
It is an expensive kit, but if you have the patience to wait for the right used lenses, it is not much more expensive than a good Canon kit. Especially if you don't care about cosmetic conditions.
I bought the Loxia new though (at a nice discounted price), and it is worth every single penny.

i visit the tetons and glacier a few weeks every year for vacation in september & october. sometimes i'm lucky to hit it when the leaves are changing color, sometimes not. landscapes are pretty standard stuff. but a 100-400mm lens is a must if you want to capture any wildlife in wyoming. the bears are closely monitored in the tetons and their schedules are known by the park rangers. the rangers are usually on scene before the bears cross the roads and keep the crowds pretty far back. i've had better luck finding wildlife on the east side of the park than on the west side. check with the lodges, they're usually a good source of rumors on what animals have been spotted where. the best time of day for moose is dusk and very cloudy mornings, bears seem to be late afternoon, though we almost hit one that ran out in front of our car last year.

this was with the fuji x-t2 & 100-400mm @ 400mm. i'm seriously considering coupling my 70-200mm with a 2x teleconverter on my 6d this year.

maybe, but I'de prefer to have AF lenses if family is involved. I've got to shoot stills and video, so MF not preferred especially if my MF stuff is rather larger.

for landscapes with tripod use, I'm settling down on a sony 12-24 and zeiss 35-70 + 100-300. I'de certainly entertain the idea of these lenses for travel, depends on where I go and who with.

Thanks Talley and Charlie. I think my toughest decision at this point is going to be a 6D ii or a 5D IV. The 5D is probably a little overkill for me but I think I can get it for about $1K more, it fits in my budget with the lenses we've been discussing, it does have several key advantages over the 6D, and I believe it is more similar in lay out to my 7D. I've thought about going the 6D and 80D combination route but feel I am more of a "one body that does everything quite/exceptionally well" kind of photographer. Thanks again.

Overkill is better than underkill (is that even a word???)

The advantage to using 2 bodies is, you have each body/lens setup always on the ready. Disadvantage is extra weight.

Overkill it is ...... 5D IV is on the way. Lenses will ordered over the next couple of days. Anxiously waiting for folks to post first impressions of the Tamron 24-70 G2.
