Wouldn't it be handy if filter makers all just labelled ND filters by the number of stops of reduction in light transmission, instead of some being ND2 to ND1000, others being ND0.3 to ND3.0, still others being ND101 to ND110, and all of them needing to be converted to what you really want to know: f-stops. Be the person your dog thinks you are.

Charlie Guess What! I'm Pregnant! More info Post edited over 3 years ago by Charlie. | Aug 25, 2017 10:38 | #8557 From my understanding, the ND 2-1000 system basically means 1/2 - 1/1000. Half the light = 1 stop. 1/1000 the light = 10 stop. It's a denominator system. So what is 6, 2/3 stop if I use this filter? Easy, just take 100 * 1/10s = 10s (6, 2/3 stop) maybe that's just me. ![]() I see. That does make it easy. Although less so if it's an ND64. Singh Ray filters use stops. Why everyone else doesn't is beyond me. Can you imagine if photographic light meters gave you an EV value instead of an f-stop, or maybe just a lumens value?
