Give him a home Gene!
Last year we maintained two mantids for almost 6 months, i even ordered fly larvae to feed them with.
I've got a soft spot for them.

I do too. They are pretty common here and they help keep the nuisance insects in check.

Pardon the snapshot but did I say that these were pretty common here? This is what my screen door looked like this morning. I've never seen three together like this before.

Nice shot Robert. Years ago I was driving through Death Valley with my wife (girlfriend at the time) and saw a black dot on the horizon on the road. I thought it was a car coming the other way at first but as I got closer I realised it was a cayote walking towards me along the road. I slowed down and it walked right up to my car. I had a bit of a panic as wasn't sure if coyotes attack people or not so put my drivers window up as a precaution. It just stood there and stared at me so I took its photo through the glass and drove on. Very weird experience . Still don't know if cayotes are friendly to humans or not? Never seen one since

I wouldn't say they are friendly to humans. More that they will avoid humans in general. When I lived near Joshua Tree they were a common sight heading in and out of the park at night. Sometimes you could be out hiking at night and hear a family of them yipping to each other, but other than when I was in my car, I never had one come near me.
