i learned something new today.

We know that when using a speedlight or strobe, the liveview turns off and the EVF will act like an OVF.

We can assign a button(C4 in my case) to "Shot Result Preview". While pressing and holding the C4, it turns into a liveview. True with a speedlight or just with the X1T transmitter on.

You can find the "Shot. Result Preview" only on custom key settings.

Also I matched my LCD and EVF brightness to the brightness of my monitor. it helps. i based it on the brightness settings of my iMac when I process my shots. I matched it with the LR preview. I had to go -2 to both my LCD and EVF's brightness to match.

Nice shot Robert. Years ago I was driving through Death Valley with my wife (girlfriend at the time) and saw a black dot on the horizon on the road. I thought it was a car coming the other way at first but as I got closer I realised it was a cayote walking towards me along the road. I slowed down and it walked right up to my car. I had a bit of a panic as wasn't sure if coyotes attack people or not so put my drivers window up as a precaution. It just stood there and stared at me so I took its photo through the glass and drove on. Very weird experience . Still don't know if cayotes are friendly to humans or not? Never seen one since

I don't trust them.
Open season on them here in east TN.
The neighboring farmers have learned to keep a mule with the cows/sheep/etc. to dispatch of the coyotes.
I do a 45 min loop up into the mountains from the cabin. I always carry heat just in case I go down with a snapped ankle.
We often see the lone coyote but the yipping team will take advantage of any situation it can...like a man down.
Still they're a gorgeous animal and have defeated the odds of survival.

Sony released a new firmware for the a9 today. It adds eye AF to adapted glass. I confirmed that it works this morning on the Canon 24-70II!

Adapted has always played well on the a9, but the addition of eye focus changes things for me in a big way. Adapted glass is a truly viable option and I might have to give the 135L or Sigma 135 a shot.

This is really helpful Vinz. I actually have live view turned off most of the time now as AF is more reliable with it off. But live view is absolutely useful and it'd be nice to be able to quickly toggle it on just to check the exposure. I now have it mapped to C3. Thanks!

Wow that's major. Is it adaptor dependant? Wonder if possible on a7rii?

I only have an MC-11, but it worked well on that. Others on FM and DPreview are saying that it works on the metabones IV and other adapters as well.

My impression was always that you needed hybrid AF for eye focus to work, but the interesting thing is that it works in the pure PDAF mode the camera jumps into when you put adapted glass on. I'd guess that this is only possible on the a9's AF system. PDAF is much better on the a9 than the a7rII, and it's most noticeable with adapted glass. Adapted glass always performed like native glass on the a9....the only glaring thing that stood out was that eye AF didn't work. Lock on focus and expandable point AF still do not work with the new firmware though.

It can be reasonably assumed that eye AF will work on the a7III, a7rIII, etc.

I now have an itch to try the TAP with some Leica glass.....

regarding coyotes...we have tons in the hills around here. I've seen them while out mountain biking, especially at dusk. I road right though a pack once. they saw me coming and just melted into the sagebrush. I couldn't have been more than a few feet from them. We live next to a golf course. They come down at night and start howling. It wakes me up. I think they might be trying to lure in dogs. In general they don't make me nervous. Now the wolves and cougars are a different sorry. They are spotted from time to time. Last thing I want to do is come ripping around the corner and have one of those guys be standing in the trail!

This is already working with the metabones, but I imagine Sony's firmware works better

BTW, beware of TAP issues

the adapter is not very suitable for landscapes as it can tilt small amounts, both of my TAP's have this problem.

support is borderline nil, and you have to send back to china for service if needed, firmware updates can brick your TAP!

The range is limited, so longer lenses like a 50mm+ you need to prefocus a bit for closer focus. 35mm and wider lenses behave like regular lenses, just park at infinity.

When shooting live, you may knock it out of infinity, and adapter may not be able to focus, so it should be in the back of your mind whenever you shoot it.

infinity is NOT hard stop infinity, you'll have to find it per lens since the adapter allows you to focus past infinity.

Floating lens elements dont work well with TAP, performance should be hit.
---------------

with that out of the way, it's been lovely with my CV 35. I dont think I will use it for anything else anymore due to the issues. The AF is similar to Metabones/MC-11 with non art lenses. It's been very fun. As for the 135A, the MC-11 was an issue up to 1.07 and probably will continue to be an issue. I'de rather use in green mode of the Metabones. It does work very well with MBIV and latest firmware. Even does eye AF better than the MC11 when using advance mode. Hopefully the rii gets these firmware trickled down, eye AF with TAP would be nice.

This could be expensive once the a7iii a7riii come out :D

Yeah from what I had read though it didn't work well. An in body version independent of adapter is a big leap forward

there was an update a few months ago that VASTLY changed the metabones in advance mode. It came to a point that it was even better than what sigma could do with the MC-11 and their art lenses.

a guy on FM has a video on it, you can skip to 2:40 if you want to get past the comparison. It doesnt track well, similar to the sigma mc-11.

Went for a walk with the 135ZA yesterday evening with the kids. I really need to get out with this combo more.

Thanks for the feedback Charlie. It's hard to wrap your head around all of the options available once you start looking at adapting. I think I need to invest in a metabones IV. I still have a metabones III, and it isn't too useful these days since I can't update the firmware.

BTW, anyone know if there are any Nikon adapters that won't fry your camera?
