This second one was a mistake really, absolutely no contrast between the bird and the water. But a bit of work in Lightroom produced this. A magazine in th UK, Outdoor Photography, often has wildlife images like this with a burnt-out background - usually snow. Well, it's different and I have to say I quite like it. Any thoughts?

Any Scandinavians reading this thread? Your influence is spreading :) . Here is some action from the Australian Orienteering Championships this week - a New Zealand junior's unusual control punching technique.

Cheers

Alec

I like it, too. The white background makes the bird stand out and gives the photo a unique look.

That being said, I totally love the first one. The pose and the colored reflections in the water are awesome.

C&C always welcome

I played around with the 35mm and an extension tube today. The depth of field is pretty amazing (compared to longer macro lenses) - I'll have to use that combo more often in the future :-)

The 35mm + extension tube might become a favorite for flower macros. From yesterday:

This is a court house in Central Islip New York. A word to the wise though. Be aware of what property your on , and if it's federal you best ask permission first. Almost being arrested for trespassing is not fun! One of the few shots I had taken before I was removed. I should have started with the one I wanted more.
