From back in July...can't wait to go back in a couple weeks for fall color, won't be on Clingmans, it is going to peak in the next week or so...

Promise not to load the thread with Swans but did shoot them for almost 3 hours, so swans alone over 2000 pics.

Interesting to me because really zoomed in they are not so white
Another observation, and Gene you have the FE100-400GM and 2.0 TC so your thoughts on this too, but I think with
the 2.0 the FE100400 does excellent. I think Sony made history again with a zoom that can take a 2.0 well, heck most zooms
can't even take 1.4TC and flourish, and if they do ok then you've lost all kinds of focus points-not so with the Sony.

I'm very impressed with how the Sony 2x extender works with the FE 100-400GM. I think it's a bit slower to focus, especially when switching from a relatively close object to a distant one but it's very accurate and sharp.

Just had another look at this on a proper screen as opposed to my phone, the light through that mist is superb. Great shot

Thanks both. I just ordered a FE 90 just now. I can already feel myself falling into the still life/macro rabbit hole . Using you as inspiration Gene, wanting to try some of the product type stuff for myself, hopefully it will get me out of this photography rut. The 90 should also be ideal for when my daughter arrives. Just need to sell the Batis 85 now which isn’t something I was really wanting to do but can’t justify both to myself at the moment and I have the 55 which has always felt quite close

Congrats on the purchase of the lens Eddie, I hope you're as happy with yours as I am with mine. One thing to note is that it can be a bit slow to focus so I'm not sure how well it will work with your little one. The lens is great for portraits as well as macro though. The way the lens switches from AF to Manual focus is unique too but it doesn't take long to get used to it.

Thanks Gene, was more thinking for poses newborn photography when the baby is sleeping etc. When she is more mobile I will use a different lens. Looking forward to getting it

Thanks Eddie. The light through the fog was great, it changes so fast up there, you really can't take the time to setup and wait...you just have to shoot what you can...if you take too long, it will be gone.

So I've been comparing the EOS 400DOii + 2.0 TC and the FE100-400GM with 2.0.
For detail it's pretty much a draw when the light is good.
On the trip I'd switch out for the DOii in the morning and in the evening just to get that
extra stop of light.
