No need to shoot you... I'd rather shoot the moon since it's about the only thing available on nights when the moon is nearly full! The shutter speed pretty well took care of any hand-held induced movement. It's kind of hard to tell about the focus due to its size, though, but looks pretty good for hand-held. Did you also let the lens focus itself?

Hiya Roy, I was on my way to bed then saw that the moon was nice and clear, so I just grabbed my cam that was set up to man exposure and single point AF - servo(AF-C) and back button focus, I saw that she was well lit so I could keep my shutt speed high enough and still use f5.6 sweet spot of mm lens and low enough iso of 200, I baced myself against our wall and took just the one hand held shot.

I'm loving all the aircraft flying past the moon photo's, I've only been lucky enough to catch it once and that was during the day :(

And whilst I am here, I thought I would post one from last night's harvest moon.

I took the telescope out last night to see what I could do with it. The first was at 2310mm, and the second was at 3234mm, using my Meade ETX 125 scope.

Nice images!

Explain to me, the EXIF data above each image showing that you used Nikkor 18-55mm lens, is that a mistake?

Second, that telescope has 1900mm focal length, how did you get 2310mm and 3234mm with it?

Second, that telescope has 1900mm focal length, how did you get 2310mm and 3234mm with it?

First: Thanks for the compliment about the images. To get the posted pictures into my gallery, it's necessary to select a lens from the choices POTN offers. But telescopes aren't listed in the choices for the lens used, so I picked a lens that was obviously not what I had used. I used the Meade ETX 125 telescope.

Second: You're right! The telescope with the short T-Adapter for my camera has a 1900mm focal length, but the adapter has an extension tube that increases the focal length to 2310mm. Then, I added a 1.4x teleconverter to that, which increased the focal length to 3234mm.

The image below is a screen capture from the manual for the Meade ETX telescopes, with the focal lengths listed with the short adapter and with the extension inserted... And that's how my photos were taken at 2310mm and 3234mm focal lengths. Also, the focal lengths given in the manual are for 35mm cameras. Since my camera has a smaller sensor, it has a 35mm equivalent conversion factor of 1.5... So if that is factored in, the 2310mm focal length converts to 3465mm, and the 3234mm focal length is equivalent to a photo taken with a 4851mm telephoto lens on a 35mm camera!!! The numbers just keep getting bigger and bigger.
