Blue Banded Bees in flight, visiting a Sacred Bamboo shrub in our back garden. Sadly, over the last couple of years, their numbers have dwindled and we rarely see them now.:-(

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Brian, I appreciate your comments.:-)

I guess I should also add your name to the credits ;-)a, as I have implemented your suggestion of using a bean pole, in my case a 1.5 metre length of 25mm dia dowel which has proven to be very versatile and adaptable with these fast-moving insects.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

very sharp for flight shots

Thanks.:-)

Illumination was provided by the Canon Speedlite 580 EX II and I was able to use low speed continuous shooting (around 3-4 fps) and with the Canon external battery pack, the Speedlite kept up with the bursts.

The Canon Speedlite 580 EX II User Manual writes that the flash duration (normal) is 1.2ms or shorter, so I assume that a shorter flash duration than 1.2ms was used (E-TTL II Mode with +2/3 FEC) which has nicely frozen the action, as the bees were perhaps only some 15-30 CMS from the front of the lens.

Cheers

Dennis
