I recently purchased the Sigma 18-300 and am quite satisfied with it. I was making up a lighter-weight kit for airline and bus travel, and for shore excursions during a cruise. Other lenses I considered were the Canon 18-135, Tamron 16-300, and the new Tamron 18-400. The best was probably the Canon, but I wanted more range. According to the second link below, the 16-300 has considerable CA at the long end. I knew little about the 18-400 and probably could not have gotten one before my September cruise. In any case the two Tamron lenses were much more expensive.

I found the Sig 50-500 OS to be a very handy lens, with IQ that was pretty decent at both ends. For a 10x superzoom, that did pretty well.

I use that one a lot too.

I can't vouch for any of the xx-300mm zooms, but I do far prefer the 18-135mm EF-S STM over the 18-55mm for similar reasons.

^^^^^This, but consider the 18-135 USM "nano" version.

I just bought an 18-135 USM. The optics are the same as the 18-135 STM,

Not true - if you believe photozone (http://photozone.de …_18135_3556stmis?start=2) (external link):

" The new optical design with a large diameter UD element in the front lens group obviously makes a difference compared to its predecessor. "

They gave 3.5 stars to the STM model vs 2 stars for the older model for the optical performance.

6D (normal), 6D (full spectrum), Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC, 135L, 70-200 f4L, 50mm f1.8 STM, Samyang 8mm fisheye, home studio, Fast Stacker
