Does anybody want to see some more sample photos, or do you prefer to yell and scream about dynamic range?

Did I mention how much I LOVE the Canon 16-35 f/4L on the 6D2? One very sweet lens!

I'm jealous. That is not in my budget this year. I've been tempted by the 17-40, but I think I need to just wait.

Being as they're readily available down around the $400-425 range, I'd say you should go for it. I'd bet you wouldn't lose too much on reselling it once you have the money saved to bridge the gap on a 16-35f4IS. Think of all the images you can create while you're saving for the better lens. They're both great lenses, though corner/edge sharpness clearly goes to the 16-35f4IS obviously. But you'll get to see if you really would shoot at such wide angles often enough to warrant spending near $1k. In a year or so try to sell it at/near $400. Even if you take $350, that's only $50 to 'rent' that lens for a year.

I currently have the 17-40 and am eager to get the 16-35mm, just need to sell my lens to fund it! If I didn't have either I would definitely go for the 16-35 no doubt.

You're tempting me! I do have the 10-18 and an SL1 plus the original m and an 11-22, so I already have the wide angle covered. I will keep an eye out on Black Friday, but I think I just need to wait another year.

Your gear list has a ton of overlap focal lengths between the 3 systems. Since you've got the 70-300mk2, outside of maybe the weight savings, is there anything the 55-250 benefits over the new 70-300? The 40/50 stm conundrum, do you need both? They're both great cheap lenses. Can I ask which one you tend to use more? I've gone back and forth over adding one of these as a backup lens myself but do you find yourself actually using both? Slightly smaller 40 or the extra stop+ of light on the 50? You could, potentially, just by thinning out your gear have half the money for the 16-35f4IS.

With your setup(if your gear list is current) I'd keep the the 24stm attached to the Sl1(paired with either the 40 or 50 then the 70-300 when you want the extra length), sell the 10-18 (& 55-250)to put towards the 16-35f4IS. Use your M/11-22 as your mini wide setup(though I'd upgrade that M to an M3 for a more fun user experience) Put the far superior 16-35f4IS w/ your 6d2. Anywho, just my two cents.

I'd follow this link through the holiday season and wait for them to come back in stock and when they/if they put it on sale get it.

You're right. I do have a lot of overlap. I looked back through my photos of the past year and I actually used it all. The m is my "play" camera and I've taken it with me everywhere except when I took my actual DSLR. I would give up the m system first, but the condition on my m is pretty banged up (IQ is fine), so I'm not sure whether it would be worth it to me to sell it. I do like my little m, but I don't think mirrorless is my jam and wouldn't replace it. I kept the SL1 and a few EF-s lenses as a lightweight travel/hiking cam. For example, I used it on a trip to San Diego where photography wasn't the focus and was glad I had it.

But you do have me thinking, what I should really do is sell the SL1 and all my EF-s gear, the 40mm, and the 11-22 ef-m, but keep the m and the 22mm. That might get me all the way to a 16-35 f/4 refurbished. Not sure I want to give up the lightweight option, though.
