You seem to be, at least a bit, complaining that your clients stopped pestering you after the business transaction was complete. I find that odd. The last time you filled up your gas tank, did you run inside and thank the clerk?
To be fair, the clerk had nothing to do with the gas transaction, unlike the relationship between a photographer and the client. Now if the clerk came out and pumped the gas, and as I paid him, I would thank him. We used to have gas stations like that in fact.
Common courtesies like thank you, please, no - after you, let me get that... are all sadly going away as the general populace becomes more self-indulged.
My suggestion is that in about a week or two, just fire off a followup "thank you for your business" to the client, and throw in things like "if you need another session in the future, I would be honored if you select me again" and "if you have family, please refer them to me". See what kind of response you get.
