Budget friendly G version for 999? I can hope. The FE 85 is fantastic, please be like that. Simple build, focus hold button, compact size and lightweight. If it's monstrous, I'll just keep the sigma 135 and update down the line, the sigma does kick some major butt

i hope so too.

I've been meaning to give the Sigma 135 another try with the new a9 firmware. Optical quality is great, but it was kind of buggy via the MC-11. I finally got a metabones IV to try it with, but never got around to it.

if you do intend to buy it new, bid via GT, I got more than 10% off new, pretty darn good deal

Studying the FE 16-35gm.
Who has it?
Thoughts?
Mentioned earlier Colby B has a Milky Way with it and it looks really really good for astro.
I could sell the Batis 18 and gain 2mm which is always good for wide field astro.
Only negative I can see is the weight but Colby point out it really isn't terribly heavier
than the 16-35/4 I'm carrying now.

Who has it? Not me.
Thoughts? Wish I had one (wish I had the 24-70 GM as well).

Sony's done wonders with the size/weight of the 16-35 GM and 12-24 G.

have you considered the starry stacker app? I've read of Fred and other folks using the F4 for astro @ ISO 12800 and stacking multiple shots resulting in a clean image, kind of like smooth reflections, but done manually. I may try it, and if it works out well, get rid of my two astro lenses.

I was thinking it was Mac only :( Maybe I'm wrong?
No hurry, will be next April before I can do Milky Way.

After photographing the moon with my Sony FE 100-400GM + 2x extender, I became interested in looking into getting an astro telescope for closer shots of the moon and other celestial bodies. I've been chatting with MM about what I need in the way of gear to be able to do the kind of astro photography I want.

Unfortunately, I've come to realize that I just don't have the right space at home to do so. Setting up can be a lengthy process and is best done before dark. That means the scope would be left in an unsecured spot for long periods at a time. What little yard I do have is restricted by awnings and fencing.

Then there is the problem of having dark enough sky to see well. Here are two shots, one facing approx NNE and the 2nd one facing SSE. I think I'd be lucky to be able to photograph the moon and perhaps a planet or two. I think this will be too great an investment of money and time to be worthwhile for me. Even though the skies are cloudy tonight, I was curious what kind of light pollution I would have to deal with and of course the worst offender, other than window lights from other homes are the two street lights.

These images were taken using my Laowa 15mm f4 macro lens at f4 and at the infinity stop and an iso of 100 on the first one and an iso of 200 for the 2nd.

yes!

it takes a little trial and error, but you kinda just bid your prices, and I'de start off with 20% and do counter offers. Sometimes give up if you dont want the price and try again. Bids can last 1-10 days I think, default is 3 days. Usually, you'll get a response in a few hours if a working day.

Just go to greentoe.com, I got hundreds off the 70-200 f2.8, but skipped it. Got a good amount off the sigma 135, you should definitely bid on the 16-35 if you intend to try it. Worth a shot

The 16-35/2.8 would eliminate one lens from the pack.
My EOS 24-70/4 with its 'pseudo macro can eliminate another.
Means for me any given trip unless a def. macro shoot I could get by
with 4 lens for everything.
Very tempting. If I'm smart I'll wait out taxes and see how much more I have to pay in.

Thanks for the tips/suggestions Charlie. Just a matter of time.
