Question: how do older lenses like the Canon 135L perform as far as image quality with these hi-megapixel Sonys like the A7r2?

good, however when you shoot something like the FE 85 f1.8 or 135 Art side by side, it'll show it's age. Easily blows away the 7D.

Sony A7rii/A7riii - FE 12-24/4 - FE 24-240 - FE 35/2.8 - SY 35/1.4 AF - FE 50/1.8 - FE 85/1.8 - EF 135/1.8 Art - F 600/5.6 - CZ 100-300 - Astro Rok 14/2.8 - Tamron 28-75/2.8 RXD, 70-200/2.8 VC

Man that was a lot of thread catching up I had there!

With regards to the a7riii it does look awesome. Pixel shift and joystick are a big positive for me. Dual cards is nice. Also loving that they didn’t up the megapixels, the files are big enough as it is!

I don’t see me picking one up for a while though. My a7rii was £2400 (early adopter price). It’s now £1600 (grey market like mine). To sell mine I’d get what £1200? Less eBay and PayPal fees so maybe get £1000 out it. I would then have to add about £2200 to that to get the new model assuming that it will be £3200 (normally U.K. prices are same as dollar price). That’s far too steep for me and basically writes off the cost I’ve put into the rii. Maybe after a few years the riii might be more in my range

The she-boss Poof saw me looking :) Grinned. Asked how long. I said no GAS but would save kit on trips (same battery as a9). Grinned again.
She would inherit the Rii if I ever do :)

It seems like you and the 400 D.O. were meant to be together--forever :)

But seriously, you weren't the only Sony wildlife shooter who wanted a 400 f4 as I've seen comments here and there about it needing to be a priority for Sony to make some lenses like that.

You can remove that in advance mode when you create ad. Won’t be able to edit.

I couldn’t see the option then read it had been removed. I will look for it when I list my batis in the next few days

It's gone for simple mode, still around in advance. I went through those troubles last month, but figured it out.

Mickey I think you're right. I'm good with that. Truth is for 98 percent of any wildlife I'd ever encounter
100-400 +1.4 or 2.0 is way more than adequate. It'd be the early morning or later afternoon where the F4
gets used. Hey, when I was in Panama last year we were in a canoe with this guy from Hungary. I watched
him labor under a Canon 400/2.8 for the three days he and his wife were with us and I'm telling you it was labor.
One thing to roll a cart over to the sidelines of a game and stand with that lens on a monopod or tripod---another
to carry it around in that heat and humidity. Yep my old 400DOiii looks mighty good when compared in that light :)

I cant work it out. There doesnt seem to be an option to choose "advanced" anymore. Here is a screen capture of the buy it now section. It now says buy it now + offers

EDIT - Ignore that - Just worked it out!!

With the SR app going away in the new a7RIII, it looks like someone over on FM has created a script for MAC users that "takes multiple RAW exposures and averages them so you can do the equivalent of Smooth Reflections outside the camera." It's possible someone could make a Lightroom plugin based on that script. Then you feed it your RAW images and out comes a stacked/average file. I'm in no rush to get the a7RIII after thinking about it. The initial excitement regarding the new camera has waned and I'm quite happy with my a7RII including its support for apps.

you can do this in photoshop, but it's hell. As slow as the app is, it's infinitely better than trying to do in post. I can see why sony doesnt want to support apps, do it right or not at all sorta thing. PP SR is not going to fly, not a big deal for me since I intend to keep the A7rii, but one day, I may not....

petition sony over this crap, cant take away the goods.

PlayMemories should go away in name only; the apps are great and Sony should be working to enhance them, not kill them.

Why the hell does just about every single issue in 2017 have to be about destroying all the progress of the past?

yah it sucks because I bought a few apps. is there a hardware inside the cam to enable the apps? i've read somewhere that the addition of dual card slots removed the apps capability. i thought it's just a software thing. I hope Alex from Magic Lantern will work on Sony firmware.
