You know, I love this lens. Way better than the original, which I also loved. These are only slightly cropped, MFD (3.3 meters). One in sun, one in clouds.

These butterflies are migrating through Texas right now, by the hundreds, or thousands.

Finally I had the time to put my copy to good use again during Christmas holidays. At the moment there's a lot of snow around in the Swiss Alps - I do not envy these marvellous looking guys. They have a tough time while I'm sitting in my warm and cosy flat...

An inquisitive looking great tit in the snow. Yes, it was cold that morning and the birds especially fluffy-looking!

Using the DOii on the Sony A7Riii. I post the landscape view of the flying out so you can see the horribly huge crop I had to do to pull off for an image. The shot cropped from one
in the series.

Matthew not by choice :( If they'd only come closer.
Reminds me of my 1DXii days. I'd get more keepers with the 7Dii, pixel density.
I was shooting with the a9 with 100-400GM with 2.0TC. It had done me well at Conowingo:
https://www.flickr.com …/album-72157692332760475/ (external link)
But here the owls were smaller and further away than the 24mpx a9 sensor at 800mm could deal with=zooming/cropping in and it sucked.
So I grabbed the a7Riii (42mpx) and the Canon 1.4TC with 400DOii as a hail mary. At least I got something.
In retrospect (again harkening to the 7Dii) a crop sensor with its much larger pixel density would have help.
The only good out of the trip was the knowledge of where these owls fly in the day time! I'll go back next winter for another round and with
4 days and not 4 hours like I had this time, increasing my chances one (or two or three) will fly closer.
Lots learned on this trip.
But, you know I've gone all in Sony, but kept the 400DOii :)

The shot is so clear. Where did you take the photo? As you know, around here on the East coast most owls/hawks and stuff live in forested areas, so getting these clean, open meadow type of BIF shots is near impossible. The Eagles at Conowingo are the lone exception; I'd love to do more in-flight photography.

I miss the DO II :-(
