I have the RX100 (original) and am thinking of upgrading. Should I get the IV or V? Some reviews say the difference between the IV and V is insignificant... others say the sensor of V is much better.

Or should I wait for VI?

From last summer in Maine, I have version II. I don't use it much as I like having a viewfinder, but it does take great photos!! Maybe I will upgrade some day but the new ones are a bit too pricey.

Archibald the V was the progenitor AF wise of the a9, if AF on a dinky little camera matters to you.

Thanks for the info.

Small matters! I'm moving slowly, though. Still have the RX100, and am sticking with the Canon rig (7D2 and 100-400mm II) for birding. But I added the 77D to serve as a backup and to reduce weight. Ultimately I might go to the Sony RX10.

Since getting an iphone6s I havent used my rx100iv much, I often feel the difference between both to be small. Of course the Sony is better when pixel peeping but these phones have come a long way. Still...keeping it though :)

Bought a defective RX100 mk.1 and had it repaired, total cost 90 euros.
I don't have much positive feelings so far from the first test shots,

My Olympus XZ-10 has a very small sensor but I think it performs better (pic quality, faster lens at f1.8 wide - f2.6 tele, 5x zoom range, touchscreen, creative scenes)

My RX100 M2 was to fail a matter of hours later (lens mechanism, the same as killed my original RX100 M1) but at least it went out with one of the most demanding shots ever taken with it. Pitch black until the brief flame and with a subject continually walking around (so nothing to pre-focus on), and huge dynamic range. For a pocket camera, even one with a 1" sensor, I think it acquitted itself well.
