Meanwhile I'm so impressed with the focusing ability of the Sony 85mm F1.8. Last night I used my friends 85F1.8 at a theater play rehearsal, the settings was dark but I never have a single trouble with focusing. I remembered one day I shoot a small event on a small room. I used the 2470GM on the R2 and the 85GM on the A6000 hoping to get some candid shots and an extra reach. I had to ditched my A6000 back to the bag, it was useless, it could not focus. So i think I would sacrifice a little creamier bokeh for a better focusing 85. It's better than missing a shot as Gene once said. But I might go with the Batis for the better color and micro contrast, the Batis also have OSS. On youtube's comparison between the batis and the sony, both have the same focusing speed and both are silent. with the Sony I literally could not hear anything while focusing. So expect an 85GM to land at FM soon.

Hey Vinz, are you referring to the Sony SEL85F18 85mm F/1.8? I have that in my wishlist and have come so close to pulling trigger for use on my A6500 on about 5 occasions but for some reason keep holding off. I want to start doing some portrait work and I think this lens would be perfect.

SO long story short. Getting a tamron 70-200 2.8 and a metabones will still maintain AF and what not? I wouldn't be using that particular lens in any low light situations so i am not too worried about it's performance in that type of light. Moreso, would be for portrait work for families and shooting cars.

If the FE 24-70mm GM, weren’t so dang heavy I’d buy it. I consistently like images I see from that lens - especially landscapes and cityscapes - and that is particularly telling.

Even with the weight I’m tempted. When I go on a photowalk I’m carrying 21mm, 35mm, and 65mm, so I’m already carrying the weight, but it’s more comfortably dispersed (two lenses in my bag, other one on the camera). I wouldn’t sell my Loxias, but the selling Batis 135mm (which I’m selling regardless) + CV 65mm + FE 55mm = buying 24-70mm GM.

And this is another reason I want to do an outing with my sweet little 55mm: to decide if I can bring myself to part with it. I don’t use it much, so that’s strike one, but perhaps I need to force myself to use it more because it really is fantastic.

the FE85F1.8. you should get it. it's a great value for how good it is.

yes, as long as you've got a A7ii body or newer and all the firmware updates on the camera body and adapter.

I have the tamron 70-200 f2.8 VC model, but I'm confident ANY EF mount lens would work. The adapter is so good. I got the lens because I've shot with it in the past, and it's the highest performing 3rd party zoom I've ever used, just about on par with canon's 70-200ii with even better flare resistance. Not many third party zooms can perform that well, this is the exception.

I'm not sure how heavy the 24-70 GM is to the 16-35 GM but I didn't have any issues with the wide angle zoom working for 3+ hours. Granted most of the time it was on a tripod but I was constantly picking up and moving with the tripod with the camera and lens attached.

24-70GM definitely in my cards, no doubt about it, so much GAS on this forum, love feeding my GAS habit, wont deny it

Can someone explain the difference in focussing between “setting effect on/off”? I think that’s adding to the issue. Does one allow wide open focussing? If so what one?

how many guys using the 24-240 fe sony lens, my local shop had a promo and i had a gift card so i puulled the trigger, looks ok for a walk around lens, i will be using on a original a7 so i hope the oss is decent at 240mm, does any one love or hate this lens

Hey man. So I bring a lot of gear to the parks since I find them fun to photograph, but the rx1rii did the majority of the family photos and basically all of the video I shot on our last two trips. 35mm is a very good focal length for documenting and is basically the same FOV as your phone, but better optically and creatively. Also, realistically I can compose a photo on the rx1rii in less time than it would take me to boot up the camera app on my phone and snap a shot.

The downside to the rx1rii is the battery life. When out in the parks I would bring a really high capacity battery pack to charge phones, but also to charge my cameras while they're in the camera bag. I find that easier than charging a bunch of batteries every night.

Thanks for the insight, it would be to document the family and the sights, not so much the landscape and scenery of the parks. Being my first time, I think I’ll be overwhelmed with the experience that I don’t want to be distracted by the photography aspect of it. Plus I need to keep my eyes on my kids at all times. I don’t see myself taking that many shots so hopefully the OEM and a dual charger with generics will be enough. Trying to keep it nice and light, ive watched a few “which cameras to bring to Disney” and felt a pain in my shoulder when I saw one guy carrying a Lowepro 450 with two bodies, 3 zooms, and 4-5 primes. Hoping to keep it touristy with say a single camera around my neck/shoulder sling, my phone in my pocket, and just enjoying. I’m sure I could get away with say an RX100 or an a7/a9 with 24-70 but thinking to keep it simple.

I'm fine with it. decent for snapshots, however being 6.3 on the long end, I'de hesitate to use AF indoors at the long end.

I’ve not been as often as Carlo but I’ll chime in. I was at Disney land Florida last year with my family and had the a7rii and 3 batis lenses. Whilst it was no problem carrying that kit around all day if I was to go back again I would take the X100F and be done. I think the rx1rii would do you well. Assuming your main aim is to catch the candid moments and nice memories of your family it can easily be done with a 35mm lens. Different story if you are trying to photograph the actual park but with the thousands of people everywhere I didn’t really have much desire for that

Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s gray to get the insight from others. It would be for candid moments of my family and kids. It’ll be an expensive P&S really, just to take snaps. I won’t be able to carry a tripod or even setup a shot really, just want quality shots of my kids with the Princesses and something better than a phone. Another option is to say get a a6500, the 18-105, and 35 prime but then I’d get caught up with lens changes, and the 35 f/2 on the RX1RII should be fast enough. Keeping it simple and not worrying about composition or Not get caught up in the “damn this would look better with a 85 1.8 or a 70-200”. Plus my kids being 4.5 and 2 years old means I’ll be chasing after them most of the time and won’t have time to change lenses. I already struggled with carrying too many lenses, spending times changing them, then cursing for my bag being too heavy, leaving one at home, then cursing myself for not bringing it for that one shot I wanted to take, lol.

my general amusement park rule, never bring more than 2 lenses.

I'de probably favor wider to keep it fun, rides/lines can get cramped, small kids naturally cant drift far from you.

simply 16-35 GM may be the best way to go.... 12-24 certainly work as well.
