The new (to me) 1dx has turned up, 44k clicks on it and it’s in immaculate condition. It has the original owners settings still on it and firmware 2.0.8. I’m going to leave these settings for now. Roll on Sunday when I can get out and take some test shots.

Very excited ߑ

If you are like me then I think that you are going to be a wee bit impressed!

There is no such thing as a perfect camera - but in my humble opinion - the Canon 1DX is fairly close.

Happy new toy!

It certainly appears to be an amazing bit of kit, way above my skill set, I’m hoping to get out with it over the next few days and start learning how to improve and take better pictures

First day of using the new (to me) 1Dx. Thankfully this one seems to be working great unlike the first one I bought. Took a trip to the local zoo and experimented.
I played around with Tv , Av and then M , do you folks use Auto iso ? I used it most of the time but did find it would go right up which produced a fair bit of noise. This is a big learning curve for me and I need to get to grips with the ideal settings.
Have attached a couple of shots below, not sure how to attach the original files so have airdropped them to my iPad, then screen shot from iPad to allow upload due to file size

I use Manual mode (on my 1DX) with Auto ISO for pretty much everything. My shutter speed is adjusted via the main dial (by the shutter release) and aperture via the back dial so if I see the ISO getting a bit silly then I can adjust very quickly. I also have Exposure Compensation activated by the SET button and adjusted by the main dial - very handy and extremely quick. I would also suggest Back Button Focusing. It took me a long time to get used to it but I wouldn't go back!

That lot may sound a bit complicated but it is not and after a little use you will find that a "Point and Shoot" is very complicated to use! The other/main advantage is that all relevant adjustments can be made very quickly without removing your eye from the viewfinder. I shoot mainly wildlife/birds so this setup is a great bonus for me.

Happy new toy!

Hello :-)
Can I have some nice high iso(800-3200) examples with a prime(at best) 50 or 35 mm f/2-4? I need to upgrade in spring. And I use flash as less as possible. Sometimes there is a low light at conferences and I need to deliver nice exposure - important for later postprocessing.
I have 5D Classic and when there is a low light and I fix it with ISO 800+, I can hardly postprocess the raw files. Colours are bad, sharpness is bad etc...
Important thing for me is to deliver to a client nice photographs without using a flash..
