MacPhun Luminar 2018

So I just got my download link to Download it from my preorder.
So far I am not a fan. its really slow doing the adjustments on the photo. Opening one image seems to take as long as launching lightroom.
I might be asking for a refund.
my PC isnt really slow either. its an 8core 16thread Xeon CPU 16GB ram. the CPU isnt anything new but should have plenty of HP for this app. Capture one,DXO11, and lightroom are so much faster editing

another thing. you have to add Filters. basically selecting the tools you want to use like the Raw Developer, sharpening, color temp. the basic stuff you would use to develop. It says save preset but you cant load it once you save it and you have to pick the filters all over again everytime you open a photo. Who beta tested this. they sure missed some basic issues

Couldn't care less about a lot of issues - using it for fine art, not production.
I only care if raw development matches ACR (process 2012)
If it does, Adobe cc is history - and that will be MAJOR to me.

As to features, it's still a work in progress.

I think I am going to end up using the free DxO 11 they are giving away. I have been using it for a couple days and it's really grown on me. I actually like the output and details I get from it compared to Lightroom.
I was excited for Luminar. Pre-ordered it like 2 weeks ago but it's to frustrating slow for me and the filters/tools you have to add Everytime you open a photo seems crazy

Being retired military I picked this up for half price. Just downloaded it and I am not having the slowness issue you seem to be having. It is pretty interesting to play with and a different workflow but at the moment I kind of like it.

Edit: I am running Windows 10 and running Luminar as a standalone program with no issues. Raw files open in a few seconds.

Very strange indeed. Still haven't had time to install luminar, but I installed the DxO product a few days ago and I have not run across anything slower... ever. Even hovering the cursor over a feature took the tool tip 30 to 45 seconds to be revealed. In fact, hovering and waiting for a tool tip would hang the program into a Not Responding wait state. I'll reserve judgement on Luminar until I've tried it. BTW, probably not system related. Not a gamer's orgasmatron, but an I7 / 16 gig / win 7-64 pro with a nvidia 1050 chipset should not be having the problems I am with DxO.

The vast majority of those reporting slowness....are running the Windows version. Now there is a shock.

I downloaded and installed it on a Win7 Pro platform yesterday. Also built the plugin for Photoshop.

I tried 3 attempts at actually doing some editing from the Photoshop plugin start point. Unbelievably slow. I gave up after several minutes of waiting for the output to post to PS editing. Finally, out of pure desperation, launched it and ran it native (non-plugin from PS). Still extremely slow and sluggish. I was able to export a finished product.

Compared to the beta version for Windows, this thing is a real sloth. I'm going to evaluate it for a few more days and attempt to contact the company regarding the results. Failure to achieve resolution near term I'm going the refund route... very disappointing!

I downloaded my copy last night. I have a Macbook Pro and a Win10 PC. It works fantastic on the Mac and as a standalone on the Win10 PC.

The slowness comes when using it as a plugin for Lightroom. Then it REALLY slows down and uses all kinds of memory. Strange as this did not happen with the Beta copy that was a free download. Either way I do most my processing on my Mac so I am happy.

On another forum I read where development is already looking at this plugin issue.

Luminar 2018 with my 2017 presets all ported over works like a champ on my MacBook.

Can't wait for the DAM so I can ditch Photo Mechanic.

I participated in the Beta Windows program and had to uninstall it after a few tries. I loved the features but if I had 2 photos loaded it would lock the computer up so tight that I would have to do a hard-reboot. A that tiem the hard-drive would be spinning madly (the light would be on continuously for minutes). It is the only program I have had issues with: PS CS, Elements, DXO, Affinity and Cyberlinks Power Director Video are all fine. I was hoping for more luck with the release version.

I have Windows 10 and use it as a stand-alone. I did a simple test this morning with the same 18mb jpg photo. I did one simple adjustment with Luminar and exported the image to a new location and it took 90 seconds (as in a minute and a half!), with Affinity it took 9 seconds. I hope they correct the issue before 30 days or it's bye-bye Luminar until I hear it works better.
