QUOTED IMAGE

Amazingly good

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Walk? No way lol. We took the cog train. Later we went all the way up to the Jungfrau. 13,000 ft above sea level.

Sure. I'm an Ansel Adams fan and dabbled using his methods back in the film days. I was looking for a way to get my B&W shots to look more punchy and bring more detail out and stumbled into this.

I first convert my shot to an HDR using Photomatix Pro. I try tp pick out a conversion that will best suit an image. I then get it to the size I want and use this software. I have been using it for over 10 years and there are a lot more options out there these days. It is for PS only and there wasn't much out there back then.

I used my process in this image. Gave the rocks a eel skin look. I often can't reproduce the image the same way because I don't record what I did which makes it more interesting.

Ah.... that explains it :-) as I'm also an Ansel Adams fan, but yours are the best I've seen.

I think my technique is probably similar to yourself as I also go the light touch HDR route as part of the first phase.... but I've never seen that BWStudio plug-in before.

Many thanks for responding.

Yeah it has the colour filters, different film types and you can adjust highlights, shadows, black depth, etc. I will play around with all of that for each B&W. There has not been a lot of change with those products and I had to sneak it into PS CC because there is no installer. When I re-installed PS CC I had to sneak it in again.

I have Topaz B&W which I used about 3 times. I keep going back to Power Retouche.

Forgot to say it is for PS only and I had hoped there would be an LR plugin. However I just updated to Photomatix 6, installed the LR plugin and I can just send it to PS for the B&W conversion.
