David you make me want to re-acquire my Zeiss Holy Trinity (fe 35, batis 85, SAL 135)!

I couldn't reconcile the FE55 between the batis 85 and FE 35 either. It sits too closely in between the focal lengths and it isn't nearly as interesting of a FOV as either. But the optical quality of that lens in such a diminutive form factor was certainly attractive.

No interest in the Batis 135mm? It has really surprised me and become my favorite lens! I know the SAL 135 is amazing too (and 1.3 stops faster), but the Batis is more than a pound lighter (factoring the adapter) and it's optically insane.

Where do you live (where were these portraits taken)? You seem to have beautiful environments to shoot in. The autumn leaves are gorgeous and making your shots really beautiful.

I've honestly thought a lot about it but can't get over the $$ considering the max aperture. But yes the optical quality is there and realistically the degree of blur between 2.8 and 1.8 isn't as dramatic because of the compressed FOV.

It looks like I'll be flying to SoCal for a job interview next week

Bad news is that I might miss the a7rIII release date!

Understandable. The price seems crazy (on sale for $100 off right now) and I certainly thought the same. I bought mine used (new condition) for 1700, but I have to say that owning/using it it's worth every penny to me.

Best of luck on your job interview!!

I'm sure if I had a chance to shoot on the lens I'd be more ready to pull the trigger on one. I wonder if Sony Pro Services will let me try one out since they go through lens rentals anyway lol.

Good luck Pre. Looks like you’re getting closer to me.

Call HCE and put me in the number 4 spot instead of 5, lol.

That Zeiss rendering is the real deal. David's photos do a great job of showcasing it, but I've also been super happy with the Loxia 21, FE 35, etc.
