What you’ve just illustrated is that, even with the the most advanced camera and the best lenses, you still have to know where to point it and when to shoot. The ability to do that consistently is called experience, not luck.

Mike

Appropriate shutter speeds and correct shooting techniques will take you much further than messing around with the menus.

Among all of the Black Friday sale ads on canonrumors.com (which typically features more ads than rumors IMO) was this item:

http://www.canonrumors.com …coming-in-march-2018-cr1/ (external link)

reporting on two low-confidence (CR1) statements about a 7Diii release in March 2018 in advance of the NAB show. Not much info on still capabilities other than a vague marketing-esque mention of "first time sensor technology in a Canon DSLR". It does say it will have 4K video and C-Log. Not being a video shooter I don't know much about C-Log, but I did find this page from when it was added to the 5Div a few months ago that gives some good information:

https://www.usa.canon.com …e/see-legendary/canon-log (external link)

I still dont care about 4k video

4K at this point in the game is a no brainer. It’s as standard in the industry as WiFi.

C-Log however, would be a WELCOME addition. Bought the 7D at launch. If the III holds up, I’ll be there for launch again.

I too chose the 80D over the 7DII for the tilt screen and sensor, but I have to agree that more frames per second would be nice. I think y’all have already covered the sports aspect but 12 frames per second would be great for wildlife.

An example would be from my trips to Yellowstone. It is entirely realistic to expect to be focused on a bear for an hour or more, waiting for that moment when he raises his head to look toward the camera. In that split second that he does, the more frames you have, the better. It’s rather funny to be around several photographers and hear very little clicking followed by what sounds like several machine guns going off when the bear raises his head.

I’ll be buying a 7D III when it comes out.

I'm also planning to purchase the mk3 when it comes out but looking at the trend of price bump i.e. 5d mk3 to mk4, I'm afraid it'll be a little too expensive.

I am pretty sure they were released at the same list price. What was the price jump?

When 7DII came out, I was pretty disappointed so I decided to skip it and get the 5DIII, instead, although I needed a crop body more than a full for my purposes. 7DIII really excites me and can hardly wait. It will be a great companion body to the 5DIII.

We need the 7D3 badly, now. The sensors in the current Rebels are better than what is in the 7D2.

But I bet it's another year before we see the Mark 3.

How high is "high"?

Does that apply in Australia too? :-)

Apart from that, the 77D and 80D sensors have 20% more pixels, which means 10% more reach for my 400mm.

Going from 22 (5D3) to 30 on 5D4 made a tremendous difference.

Yes, more pixels-on-subject, useful when focus and stability are achieved, and the high-ISO noise difference is not appreciable.
