I tried out some flare shots yesterday for the first time and was a little disappointed with some of them. I was wondering if it's my lens or my lousy technique. The lens is a Sigma 30 1.4 mounted on a Sony A6300.

The shot below has some nasty green spots and some green arcing lines across the bottom of the image. I've seen artifacts similar to this in other people's shots, but they are almost always attractively round and more golden colored. Would my horrible green and oddly shaped flare be the coating on the lens, the f-stop of 1.6 or the angle of the sun?

My current 24mm does too good at controlling flare! This is a rare exception.
