For the most part, I for have nothing against features in themselves. But for me, Sony is neglecting color accuracy/color quality. I understand that's at least partly a subjective matter. But a focus on building features and apps rather than fixing color is the reason I occasionally bring up those gadgety things in negative light.

Color really is subjective, but a fair point.

But colors and features are mutually exclusive things. The colors aren't what they are because eye focus exists as a feature. Colors are important to the actual photos, but so is accurate focus on the eyes.

I understand and agree. At the end of the day, practically all features and aspects are matters of preference. By now, any modern day camera can capture great photos would good enough quality for most use cases.

Sony is certainly not neglecting color science. It changed with the R2 and again with the R3.

the A9 also has a different color scheme

Splendid shot Travis. Love the reflection of the three trees in the water.

Thank you sir! The reflections was a key element!

love it. minimalistic.

Thanks, I love minimalism and LE when combined.

mystik610 wrote in post #18507345 (external link)
Nice travis. I like the somewhat unconventional framing to show those long reflections

thanks, yeah, the sky was not that interesting up high, and I wanted the reflections, and the 135mm FL just fit perfect.

Really intriguing Travis. It's almost like the conical base of the cypress we can see is projecting a dark beam of light down into the
water.

Blasting out sound waves is what it looked like to me.

For ND filters, are you guys generally just using a 10 stop ND? I have a variable ND filter right now, and am not impressed with the results from it as i get some banding across the frame so i am thinking about upgrading to a better one for my 16-35

I use a combination, I have in my current kit a 2,3,4,6,10 and 16 Stop, I can combine and make a lot of different variations.

Variable ND's are trash...I have been told they work well, and best with fast lenses, at or near wide open, and for video...but for landscapes where they are stopped down for stills, they don't work. I have files from folks that did my workshops that I am going to inlcude in my presentation going forward when people want to argue the value of them to me...and I want to rent one from the local place to test it myself to have real world first hand knowledge.

I recently replaced all but my 10 and 16 stop with the Formatt Hitech Firecrest line, and love them, very color neutral and no IQ loss.

Took this shot a couple of months ago while we were in Budapest. Had it printed on metal at 24 x 36 at Adoramopix and it just shipped today! I uploaded it to Adoramapix on Cyber Monday so I got 30% off the price you see listed below. Can't wait to see it in person.

Looks great!!

I have done few large metal prints, wood prints, and canvas prints from Adoramapix, and they all turned out pretty good. Metal prints turned out the sharpest and nicest, followed by canvas, then wood. I personally wouldn't want to do wood anymore but won't mind more metal prints at all.

Just FYI, one of my large metal prints fell off the wall. The support was not glued properly to the actual print so the metal print fell off the wall. I took pictures and contacted Adoramapix and they simply sent me a new one. I love their customer service. :)

Thanks! That's scary. I'll check the support when I get it. Their support has been great so far as I contacted them several times prior to printing and Sam at support always responded back quickly and with solid data.

what kind of backing is it, is it a frame on the back of the metal, or a big float block of foam with a metal plate on the back?

we have had issues in our shows for our photo club of a few of the metal prints separating from the backing...just curious.

Never tried the Formatt Hitech filters before but I've been looking for some 2,3,4 stop ND filters and I see that they sell a combo kit which is reasonably priced. I'm currently using the Lee filter system. I assume they are comparable to the Lee Filters?

I'll share couple of pictures of what it looked like after the fall.. I wasn't happy to find my picture dropped on our wooden floor, but again Adoramapix was awesome in replacing with a new one. :)

The FH filters are comparable to the LEE in terms of size and fit, I use a LEE holder as well. If you buy the kit, but the little foam gaskets too...the kit does not come with any...at least mine did not.

Yep, the french cleat system, with a frame. I don't like that mounting system, that is the same as what has failed in our shows from other members. I have used Bay Photo for my metal prints, and they have a large foam mounting block on the back, that is probably 60% of the print size, and it is all adhered to the print, I have had several of them for years now...zero failures.
