Workers Comp

If a potential client is demanding you to have Workers Comp and its not a state requirement for me to have it and my business insurance has informed me that I do not need it, then where do I stand? the client (who I havent worked with in a while) said they cant work with me in the future unless I get it.
Im a vendor at MGM Resorts, Cosmopolitan, Wynn and Palazzo/Venetian and they all didnt require it.

Is the client a government contractor or agency? If they are, the law may require that everyone that they use must fulfill all sorts of requirements. Not saying WC is one of them, but if you are contracting to a business that is required to meet government standards, often you to will need to meet those same standards.

In my business, non photography, I have to deal with different insurance requirements all the time. If one of my customers asks for coverage that I don't have or need, I evaluate the cost/benefit of taking the job. It doesn't do any good to get in a pissing match about what the law says. If they want you to have it, get it and find a way to pass along the cost or pass on the job.

This is great advice. The crazy thing is I have already done the job for them. But youre right next time if this comes up I will just add on the cost to the estimate.

You stand where you are and decide if you want these people as a client or not. A client can set pretty much any (legally acceptable) terms as a condition of working with you. If the cost is too onerous then you don't work with them. There are lots of cases of US companies requiring foreign suppliers to operate to US standards, even when these exceed the legal requirements locally.

Options include passing the cost on to the client and/or seeing if you can negotiate a lower level of cover. Some companies will require a single overly large amount of cover because they normally work with bigger projects, and when you point out that your project won't need that level of cover, even if a claim is made, they will accept a lower amount.
