One from sunrise this morning. . .
This was a perfect opportunity to test out PTlens in Ps, since C1 doesn't have a profile for the Rokinon 14mm and the mustache distortion is so bad with this lens that an uncorrected horizon would be unusable.

Trying to get my head around how C1 operates without a Lightroom style catalogue. I’ve always felt stuck with LR due to the catalogue but was thinking there what is it about it I feel I can’t live without? One thing is that I can go back to previous files and don’t have to start from scratch again on the edit but can’t think of much beyond that. The file structure I can control manually so that’s not a major issue. C1 uses a catalog system just like LR. They didn’t in the past and it’s only gotten really stable in the last three releases. Whenever I shoot environmental portraits and there are dominant structures like this is the frame, I think of the commentary of the architecture guys. I try to watch my verticals, and make sure to do whatever perspective corrections need to be done in post. Definitely makes for cleaner compositions. The file structure I can control manually so that’s not a major issue. The edits will still be there. C1 has a catalog, and sessions. You can import into the folder of your choice, just as you would with Lr, but it also keeps track of the "sessions/imports" separately. So if you shoot the same location 5 days in a row, and keep the images in the same named folder, then C1 will still keep them separated by shoot date in it's catalog. So you can either go to the folder to all the images, or the shoot date when looking for specific images.

For me, I prefer the handshake workflow that exists between LR and C1. Although C1 makes your images look better by default Mark Galer claims it just comes down to what each app uses as a default processing starting point and suggests how to easily modify LR’s defaults to be more C1 like. Also, I use a custom color calibration as my LR default, which gives me a more accurate image than “camera standard”. David, do you mind sharing your custom color calibration? - Alfredo -

Dec 11, 2017 14:49 | #8725 mystik610 wrote in post #18515262 I have mixed feelings about the Sigma 135. On one hand, really sharp and nice contrasty rendering that is reminiscent of Zeiss.....OTOH, the OOF rendering can get really nasty when you have a lot of specular highlights in the background. The compressed FOV means that its really not an issue most of the time, but its rendering has all the good and bad characteristics of a typical Sigma lens. Ideally you’re supposed to make a new profile for every project, but I just make one in natural light and use it for everything because I never found a huge difference when I made custom profiles on a project-by-project basis. Thank you David. I will order one and create a profile. - Alfredo -
