Sony Lounge Thread MKIII (All Sony cameras welcome)

I genuinely don’t know why people do BBF (like I said I got used to doing it myself with Canon), but don’t know the reasoning for It? I just done it as it seemed to be the done thing and ended up liking it . Not sure what it gained me though

How many of you are using back button focus for daily use? Not talking about when shooting moving people or anything like that. I mean for just day to day shooting?

On the a7r2 no, not ergonomically setup for that...

on the a9 yes, it is setup better for it. for me, it is most useful shooting at the track, BBF for acquiring focus and holding it, keeping the AF-C engaged, and then the shutter button for capture...I have it setup so that it still does AF on the shutter button too, so that if god forbid someone else has to use the a9...it still works. I actually like it for shooting people too...I can hold focus in AF-C on my subject, if they are moving, I am moving...and it still holds focus throughout...and then I can fire off the shot when its right...I love BBF...wish the A7R2 was more friendly to it.

Additionally...the shutter release on the a9 is like a hair trigger...you can be firing off shots unintentionally, especially in super stealth ninja mode.

shutter button AF + focus hold when you want to temporarily disable AF.

Vinz, I carried the 12-24mm down into that pit too. It took my toes an hour to warm up even after the climb back out.

i gotta learn more about these things. last weekend i tried out silent shooting and had some horizontal shutter flickers in the picture. made me wonder if there is a limit in the settings that the lines would show. that efcs sounds horrible when off. thought i was done with that 'clunk clunk' with the new camera ;p

shutter speed multiples of 30 should do the trick
