We are currently being swarmed by cardinals...the last count in the feeding area was 12.

Taken at Snuff Mills in Bristol. The kingfisher was not put off by the dogs barking and jumping in the river.

Nice Paul, that's part of my ex local patch, my kingfisher shots were down there. The river Frome runs along the field, at the bottom of the garden of the house we've just left, a couple of miles upstream.

Nice to see they are still there. The Frome valley used to be my local patch about 30 years ago. I loved it.

That's a coincidence, I'm born and bred there, just left for pastures new. Where were you based back then?

I lived in Eastville for ten years from 1976 to 1986, but only returned to birding after a long absence in 1984. For my last two years there I worked the River Frome every week from Eastville Park Lake up to Fishponds. I never saw anything very rare (I was gutted when a Yellow-rumped Warbler was found a few years ago!), but I reckon I knew every bird along the river. There were two pairs of Kingfishers and one of Dippers. I always used to kick up a Woodcock or two in winter and one year I found a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker's nest. Alas, I wasn't into photography then. I remember one particularly severe winter - I suppose it must have been 1985 when the lake froze solid enough to walk over and dawn temperatures were -10c for a week or two. That brought loads of Redwings, some of them dying around my feet. That was sad.

A lovely Patch I very often visit, I always do Eastville Park, Snuff Mills & Stoke Park estate in a day. You might know Richard Scantlebury, Martin Tayler, Allan Chard. :They do this patch most days and have done for years. Always see kingfishers/wagtails/goldcrests/herons and the occasional otter. Saw yellow browed warbler recently.

I'm not good at sandpiper identification, therefore, I'm not going to try. :p
