Can I use Camera Raw to make DNG files if I don't have Photoshop?

I use Lightroom 5.7 and I don't have Photoshop.

I've got a new camera (EOS 77D) and my version of Lightroom does not support it. So I was thinking of using Camera Raw to convert my CR2 files to digital negative files and then use the DNG files in LR. Is there a way to do that? All the online resources tell me to use Photoshop to do that, but I don't have Photoshop.

No, you can use the free adobe DNG Converter. Google it on the Bing and download the latest version. It is essentially a batch conversion tool for raw to DNG- just what it sounds like you need.

ACR is a plug-in module for photoshop, it does not run stand-alone. You could try Bridge too, but the DNG Converter is what you want.

Of course, your camera needs to be supported for it to work so check the list of supported cameras.

You couldn't have done it in PS even if you had it. PS stopped updating 2 years ago and won't read any new camera release RAW files since. You would have needed PS CC to do that which you aren't interested in.

I tested DNG files in LR6 and they worked fine.
