Here's an example, handheld, shot wide open, with 1.4x. To note, I did not scare the owl from its perch...crows made it move and it flew towards me because I was upwind. This was probably 50 meters away. Here's the original and the final crop. A bit overcropped maybe, but the detail in the feet and eyes was too good to not have shown off.
