My little T-Rexes. Shot these with my 30D, and a Canon EF 70-200mm f4L lens. As old as the camera is, the 30D still produces a nice image.

From the Battle of Britain Airshow, IWM Duxford, which is at the old RAF fighter station.

Five Hawker Hurricanes starting up.

I saw the 5 Hurricanes & thought that was pretty unusual, but then I saw these & thought, "DAMN! What a lucky guy you are!" ; )

There were actually six Hurricanes, well five and a Sea Hurricane if you want to be pedantic, and the spitfires included a Seafire too though, in the formation first Hurricane formation display on the saturday afternoon. All the shots of all six were taken on my 50D - 150-600 Sigma combination, so not really suitable for this thread. My main rig for airshows is my 50D with Canon battery grip and Sigma 150-600 C mounted on a shoulder rig to make shooting at low shutter speeds easier. I then use the 20D with my Sigma 28-300 super zoom for the wider shots of large formations, and aircraft on the ground that are too close for the 150mm end of the big lens.

Later we had the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with one of their Hurricane Mk IIc in the formation. So that made 7 of the nine currently airworthy Hurricanes that are in the UK at the show.

Here is a shot of the BBMF formation with the Hurricane. It is in SEAC unit markings, hence the removal of the red parts of the roundels and other country markings. This was to save any possibility of confusing our markings with those of the Japanese. This would be particularly important when working with US troops who would be unlikely to recognise the aircraft as being British. It's usually a hard enough job to stop your own troops firing on their aircraft, let alone those of an ally

The clipped wing, Griffon powered Spitfire is a recent restoration, and was at that time yet to receive it's display paint job. It's pretty much just wearing primer.

What is nice is that both IWM Duxford, and the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden are within twenty miles of each other, and I live about a two hour drive from both. Actually closer to home apart from RAF Ludham (about a mile from my home) which was a satellite airfield for RAF Coltishall, and was where Douglas Bader took command of 242 (Canadian) Sqn after the Battle of France almost all of the other airfields, and former airfields around here were built for the 8th USAAF bomber units, we had a pretty equal spread of both B17 Fortresses and B24 Liberator airfields.

Pics taken of the chickens during a rainstorm today. They sought shelter under a white lean-to, then ran out to dig for bugs and grass, when the rain let up a little. I shot the ladies outside from my bedroom window.

I loved my old 30D. I had that thing from 2006 to 2017.
