I'm also using another app; Planefinder. It's pretty useful;

shows all air traffic around your location
touching a plane icon shows airline/flight #/ plane registration #, altitude and air speed, and arr-dep airports if it's a scheduled flight
has augmented reality - like Google Sky point your phone at the sky and you can see air traffic as moving icons on a live view

So far it's been pretty easy to find a spot on the ground near the final approach path that aligns the moon + plane + photographer, but the plane has been very close; 2-3 x the size of the moon. I expect it will get more difficult as I try to get the moon 1-2 x the size of the plane.

OK, my first attempt at a planned plane + moon shot. I was hoping for a 747, but a 737 will have to do.

Thats a great attempt but damn hard to do at night, I have only managed the one sofar, that was in the daytime here it is -
