Need editing help

I don't know if this is the right place for it, but there isn't a place listed "editing assistance" so I'll add it here.

This image is very old and sun damaged and I had it scanned in at 1200 DPI so I could get as much detail as I could. Believe it or not, this photo is a color photo. My parents would like me to try and give it a go and see if I can repair it or at least make a decent B+W (which is easy enough for me). Does anyone have any input they could lend? THANKS!

I think when you scan the photo with special scanning software and then editing with that software. I've used Vuescan for many slides. You can try it for free at www. hamrick.com

It isn't an issue with the scan, this is legitimately what it looks like in real life

Do you have the full rez file available? It will be tedious work to put color back into that though, especially not knowing what the colors were. Here is a quick B&W attempt, but this is too bright or ethereal, at least on my calibrated laptop. Will attempt to do better with larger copy of image.

That's amazing! Very nice work, only complaint is that his right cheek has a bit of a harsh contrast line. Little dark, but awesome! Curious if you could send me a link to a full size if you'd be okay with that?

Very difficult getting much colour information out of it, probably best to stick with TS's mono version.

I couldn't even pull the yellows as much as you did. Those are the correct colors for the flowers and such, so bravo! I don't understand why my grandma left the photo in the sun for 15 years and didn't have a negative...I appreciate all of the help!

The carpet seemed to have quite a bit of blue and green in it, so if you want to colorize that area, I suspect a bluish/green or aqua was the original. Both the blue and green channels impacted that section quite a bit during the B&W conversion.
