What's your favorite lens bought in 2017? What lens did you sell that you miss the most?

I made a lot of changes and updates to my lineup this year. If I remember everything correctly, as of 1/1/17 I had the following: 1DX, 7D2, 16-35mm 2.8 II, Rokinon 24mm 1.4, 24-70mm 2.8 (v1), 35mm 1.4 (v1), 50mm 1.2, 70-200mm 2.8 IS II, 100mm 2.8 IS, 300mm 2.8 IS (v1), 600mm 4.0 IS II.

Moving forward to 1/1/18 it has become (new items in blue) 1DXII, Sony RX1R, 16-35mm 4.0 IS, Rokinon 24mm 1.4, 24-70mm 2.8 II, 35mm 1.4 (v1), Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART, 100mm 2.8 IS, 100-400mm IS II, 600mm 4.0 IS II.

The 1DXII is an obvious upgrade from the 1DX, the RX1R I had a couple years ago and missed it so I sold the 7D2 which I was never that impressed with to repurchase the Sony, no longer need 2.8 in the 16-35 range so that became the f4 IS, 24-70mm II was a long overdue upgrade, swapped the 50mm 1.2 for the ART because the Sigma is much better for astro, 300mm got sold because the 100-400mm is more versatile and easier to carry at the same time as the 600mm, then with the 100-400mm on board the 70-200mm wasn't getting used at all so it got sold as well.

Standouts from the new acquisitions are the 24-70mm II and the 50mm ART (and the 1DXII, but this is supposed to be about lenses). I miss the 300mm and will probably own it again at some point (or the Mark II), unless I opt for a 400mm DO II.

I replaced my EF-s 55-250 stm with the 70-300 IS USM II. I like the 70-300 very much. More compact than my 100-400 and I like the shorter range in some situations better than my 100-400 i. ...

I think that this is still one of Canon's sleeper lenses. I have been toying with selling mine for some time but it still produces some really nice images. The AF is a bit slow but optically it's great.

My favorite lens I bought this year is the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art although I'm growing to love the 50-100mm f/1.8 just as much! Also loving both Canon Nano-USM lenses, but overall my favorite is still the 18-35.

As for selling I regret selling my EF-M 28mm Macro when I sold my M3. Now that I have the M6 I wish I had that lens back, although eventually I'll just purchase a Canon 100mm Macro IS instead. My Tamron 60mm Macro, despite being sent in to Tamron for a firmware upgrade, will not AF on the 80D or M6.

My favorite lens bought in 2017 was a Sigma 85 f1.4 ART. It's heavy, but the results are worth it to me.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

Favorite lens bought was the 16-35 F4 IS! I do not think I will ever sell that thing. So far I haven't sold any lenses off, but I might be forced to sell one off this week to help take care of some bills.

Good luck with your upcoming purchases. I bought the 16-35 over the 17-40 for the IS and IQ. It does cost more... so your bank account won’t be happy this year either.

I am really happy for my 70-300 AF-P lens, liking the xtra reach.. but my FAV lens is my recent purchase, 35mm f1.8 (Eq: 52mm F2.8 on my DX sensor).

I sold everything Canon that I owned, and I'm really regretting it. I loved my 7D, but it's in the hands of someone who will get more use out of it which is good. I miss the 7D and 35mm f2 (Non IS/USM). I used that setup almost exclusively on my trip to London, and got some of my favorite photos ever out of that combo.

Favorite lens from last year would be the Voigtlander 40mm f2 for my Nikon FM2n.

The favorite lens I bought in 2017 was the EF 24-105 mm f/4L IS II USM. It's also the only lens I purchased that year, so there's not much competition. The reason for the procurement was that the favorite lens that failed in 2016 was the EF 24-105 mm f/4L IS USM. It was also the only lens that failed for me that year, so not much competition there either.

My apologies being off topic. I neither sold or bought anything 2017. But I just did order the Canon 35, 1.4 II L. Oh, what I've thought of this for many, many years.

I haven't sold anything during 2017. However, during the years I've sold several lenses. I do not miss any one of them.

The only lens I bought in 2017 was the 16-35F4IS. I got it for a trip to Italy and it worked out well.

This was one of my favorite images from the trip.

As to what lens I miss. A while back I sold my 70-300L and I wish I would have kept it, I thought the 100-400II would replace it but for travel I'd love to have had the 70-300L. I thought it would be hard to justify having both but I can see having both and it's one I may eventually re-buy.

Before you reinvest in the 70-300L I would check out the Canon 70-300mm IS II USM. It's about half the price for a good used copy and the Nano USM system makes it lightning fast to focus. The sharpness and color are great as well, and it will actually match your camera unlike those ugly white L lenses. Bassat did a thorough review on the 70-300 IS II USM, and I completely agree with his assessment of this awesome lens.
