A Gibbous Moon from Brisbane, 7th Jan 2018.

Whilst waiting for Jupiter and Mars to arise in the dawn skies, I took a series of photos of our Moon through my 210mm diameter F11.5 telescope with the canon 5D Mk IV fitted in place of the eyepiece. Taken at 1/30 sec, ISO100.

The optical design of my particular ‘scope gives a sweet, sharp spot towards the centre of the field of view with increasing coma as you move towards the edges. This is the Dall-Kirkham design which is why the image appears to soften towards the edges.

Cheers

Dennis

PS - ignore the Canon 800mm lens in the meta data - I used a telescope with efl of 3860mm:-)

Forecast - Very hot and mostly sunny. Correct, 43ºC (109.4F)
Kookaburra managing the heat. Beak open, wings away from body, perched in shade, still hunting though.

You should move up to Darwin, Dave. We're having a lovely 26C and drizzly day today. We also have blue-winged kookaburras. :)

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

It's the other 364 days that turns me off that idea.

Yes - sharp and contrasty at the centre with increasing coma towards the edges (Dall-Kirkham).

Cheers

Dennis
