I doubt you can tell the difference in photos from the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens vs ones from the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. However, your bank account will. ;-)a

Flat out 1000% wrong

Start cropping.

Tamron files completely fall apart at 100%. Its not even remotely in the same league as the version 2 24-70.

Get in a dark room and try to lock focus. Dare ya

Tamron is miserable to use

purchased the canon today. used greentoe and got it for $1459 to my door. we looked and tried the tamron, it was going to cost us $1302, figured for $150 would go with canon, I do appreciate all comments, and I am sure the tamron would have been great, but...
greetoe is the best site to buy on. all usa warranties and the best price. please use this link to try it - http://gtoe.me/Vbwc/3vXfKIfL6y (external link) I will get credit if you buy something.

thanks everyone!

Congrats on the purchase! Interestingly enough, that's exactly how I bought mine a couple weeks back. Greentoe is awesome :-)

It's a good thing that we got while the getting was good, as the street prices of the 24-70 II jumped up this past weekend.

I've have actually owned both. That simply isn't true. Wow...talk about bias! Can you point to collaborating professional reviews?

I almost bought the Tamron but with tax it would have been $1300, for another $150 I bought the Canon. Just thought the Canon was more of a sure thing, but the Tamron was very tempting especially with the is and 6 year warranty. The downside was that if we didn't like it the camera shop would give money back minus 15%, or full value back in store credit - but there the Canon lens would have been almost $1800...

I have the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC 2nd gen and have used the canon 24-70 beside it at a wedding. I will say if you are peeping the 24-70 comes out sharper. It won’t be noticeable by most but it is sharper. My lens seems to be an excellent copy and the IQ is great. I jumped on the opportunity to buy the Tamron from a Canada seller for $700 and added an extended 7 year transferable warranty for $30. I have heard the horror stories of grey market so if something goes wrong under warranty I ship to him and he sends to Tamron Canada for me. I believe I will eventually jump to the canon. Maybe.

When it comes to Tamron vs Canon, I would say that Tamron is great for sharpness and an overall value. However, when I was shopping for the 24-70mm 2.8mm lens, I did find some main aspects that weighed towards Canon. The Tamron does have good sharpness and AF, as well as VC. But what sold me on the 20-70mm 2.8LII was the overall contrast and sharpness. At this range, IS isn't needed, and the Canon L lenses have some great contrast colors (A/B ing equivalents, I found comparable Tamrons would have warmer and monochromatic shadows vs equivalent Canon lenses).

Go with the version 2 of the Canon lens. I have it for 3 years now. It is super fast focussing and silent.

I have not owned the tammy because EVERY copy I got my hands on sucked at 100% when compared to the canon L. Samr for a Nikon 24-70 to Tammy test as well on Nikon bodies. No comparison at all

My friend works for a national camera chain and we looked at 6 brand new copies in his inventory. All the same at 100%. Soft soft soft results compared to the L.

No Thanks. Its the worst 24-70 on the market. Glad your happy with yours. Dont ever PU a 24-70 version 2 L or a Nikon 24-70.

zero bias . I want the best I can get and Tamron is not that by a long shot
