Hyped for HyperAdapts...

Remember those Nike shoes that auto laced for Michael J. Fox in the movie "Back to the Future?" Well... This is its little brother... The Nike HyperAdapt v1.0 with E.A.R.L. technology... The four letter acronym stands for Electro Adaptive Reactive Lacing... Each shoe retails for $720 (USD), but can fetch over 4-figures in the secondary resale market... I was honored enough to photograph three of the 5 colorways of these sneakers... 1DX + 135L... ISO 100, f/2.5 @ 1/1250sec... Strobist wise, I used a Profoto B1 + Westcott 36" Deep Octa (above the shoes) and another Profoto B1 + Profoto 24" Deep Octa behind/above-right of the front shoe...

:)

My first attempt at this type of shot. The clamp and grille are sitting on a piece of plexi with a white background about 10 feet back.

It was a fun way to spend a snow day.

The photos in the previous post were made with my alienbee (B1600) lighting up the background, which was really too bright. My wife convinced me to not just buy cheap lights from Home Depot/etc since this would be used for photography. I ended up going with WAC InvisiLED Pro 24V strip lights since they are dimmable, have a controlled color temperature (2700 or 3000K), and have a relatively high CRI (85). I mounted them on a piece of flat PVC and drilled holes in the PVC to allow me to mount them to other object. My first light modifier is an Amerimax Dripper Flipper from Home Depot that I bought for $6.

The first attachment shows the image straight out of the camera without (first) and with (second) the background lights on. The photos were taken in aperture priority with the same exposure compensation dialed in.

The second photo shows my setup.

3 strobes, one under the table shooting straight up to bounce light into the bottom of controller, second at end of table to cascade across surface and the third camera left as key. Pole was black and 5' tall — retouched to look chrome and painted in the cap in Photoshop. Medical device.

Single strobe to overpower sun (to allow for a smaller aperture to darken the background) from front camera right. That's it.
