That’s not an hb’s most colorful side, but I don’t recall seeing this angle before, so this shot seems really great to me.

I think it is, however, pretty certain that it's a female captured rather than the very bright males.

Last week, even before I mentioned my 2018 resolution not to sell any gear to buy new gear, I had withered a painful temptation.

Here is the amazing Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35mm ZE (Canon mount) lens for just $525: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1521982 (external link)

I have long wanted this lens because it has a steong propensity to render a 3D effect; a look that I really love. If it weren’t so heavy (combined with metabones its about the weight of my Sony Distagon 35mm 1.4 ZA) I’d be super tempted. It has CA to manage, but a pretty special lens.

Anyway, if anyone wants a great 35mm manual focus lens, you might consider this one.

WOW, awesome result. The Wilshire Grand Center adds a lot of elegance to LA’s skyline imo.

Thanks for the link David. How does this lens perform for landscape and architecture? I’m interested.

It's great for that. Bob Israel ( rji2goleez ) recently bought one and has been posting landscapes with the lens.

My biggest worry about the lens is that the seller, who is a familiar name on FM, hasn't been able to sell it for weeks now. He's had it a that lower price now for a couple weeks. So I worry about not just the resale value, but the re-sellability, for that lens. It took me weeks to find a buyer for my Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm 1.4 ZE last year.

Those Zeiss DSLR lenses used to sell a lot quicker and easier than they do now and I think it's because Zeiss lenses used to be the best, but Canon has caught up. The Canon 35L II beats everything and it's got AF.

Have a look at this Flickriver Lens Explorer showing images from the lens - should give you a sense for its rendering: http://www.flickriver.com/lenses/zeiss/distagon352zf/ (external link) (the ZF is the Nikon-mount, but exact same optics).

Excellent. Thanks David. I will take a look. This may be an impulse buy but I don’t think I would regret getting it.

I thought the point of view was a bit different and with the wings straight out like that, she reminded me of an aircraft flying overhead. This was taken at my neighbors feeder (which I content-aware filled out). I have a theory that the male hummers tend to use my feeder because it has perches and the females are left to use my neighbor's feeder that doesn't. Of course, I could be totally wrong too.:-)
