That's some master class work vinz

Thanks. I was just inspired by Adorama TV's tutorial by Gavin Hoey. Only he used 2 Rotolight Neo and I nailed it with cheap LEDs.

That's a helluva run from one trip! Deserved.

Its been good...4 of them have over 1K faves...and one of them has more than anything in my catalog and it was a surprise...it was a really good trip, with really great light and conditions.

Just saw your shot on there just now, very nice. I see the no1 shot today is with a7rii and 24-70 GM too

Thanks, oddly its my first image that is portrait orientation to make it to EXPLORE...I think I figured out the reason too...

yeah Dylan makes some great images. I wish I could go to places like that.

You certainly had a very productive trip and created some awesome images from it Travis.

I will try and keep this post short. Got a bit of a GAS fuelled plan.

Current Hiking lenses - CV15 (298g) & Lox21 (394g)
Current Astro lens - Samyang 24 (670g) - Only carried when out with my full landscape kit in a photo backpack so weight isnt an issue

Im now thinking I should sell the CV 15 and the Samyang 24 and purchase the 16-35GM (680g). Then I could simply take the one lens when hiking (12g less than current combo) with the added benefit of loads more focal length. I would lose my astro lens but the 16-35GM has good coma from what I have read from wide open. Main loss is speed drop from f/1.4-f/2.8. I would then still have my lox21 for lightweight walkaround kit (currently L21/FE28/FE55) which is also the kit I take on daytrips etc when I dont want to take the photo backpack. The Loxia is going nowhere as its became my fav lens

Am I mad for considering this since my Samyang is perfectly centred and an amazing night sky lens? (Need the funds if I were to purchase the GM)?

I don't think so. You have both focal lengths covered all bar 1mm. You shouldn't miss any faster aperture shooting landscape anyway (in general) It's less hassle having to swap lenses continuously. Plus, you're not having to swap lenses in less than idea conditions/environments.

It's a very similar swap to me trying the 28-70OSS - just on a lesser value that's all ;-)a I did consider the 16-35GM myself but I think I'd want something longer in all honesty.

If I get on okay with the 28-70mm I might be tempted to upgrade to the 24-70mm but from what I've read IQ isn't too much different so we'll see...... That's something for later in the year ;-)a

Thanks Lee. I’ve got this notion of simplifying my lenses down and this seems like a good starting point. I’ll then wait and see what sigma announce which will potentially change the midrange lenses depending on reviews (sigma 35 to replace 28 & 55 for example)

not mad at all, I've considered the same :-P

I ended up prioritizing what I shoot most often rather than the most rare scenario.

I rarely do astro, so I kept my SY kit for it's incredible value.

if I owned the 16-35 GM, the 14 + 24 SY would definitely go. Not sure about the CV 15 and 21 though, those are uniquely small and I might keep 1 or both around. I imagine Lox 21/CV 35/FE 85 would make a fantastic travel kit ;-)a

on the flip side, 15/28/50 would be nice too and all native mounts and quite a bit lighter.

wait for the 24-105 to drop in price. I see that it's a very popular lens and since it's been flooding the market, there will probably be a lot of supply pushing the price down. If you're ok with the 28-70, I'de simply keep it, the improvement of the 24-70 is too marginal IMO, and the value is not particularly good anymore with the 24-105 driving down its price.

I'm more than happy with my FE85 & the FE35/2.8 at the moment in all honesty. I am going to see what Sigma offer with their FE35 variant though so that may well be a swap about there. I do still have the Batis 85 to put up for sale also. And the Voigtlander CV40 too.

I want the zoom for walking/hiking/landscapes so on paper, the cheap 28-70mm should fit the bill okay if IQ is acceptable - which from what I've read, it should be.

I had to return the one I bought today (it was picked up by courier) as it wasn't communicating with the body. Should hopefully have a like-for-like replacement by the end of the week.
