Great sharpness for what I assume you used an extender as well, as its a 300mm shot at 420mm?

Actually I used a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens paired with a Nikon D500. I have no idea why it showed as something else. Thank you for your kind comment!!

So, any of you weary travelers experience that 'false alarm'? I couldn't even imagine how trapped everyone must have felt. Glad it was a false alarm though.

The trip was amazing , ended up not using the 70-200, used 16-35 for some beach shots, but mainly the 24-70 all day and the 35mm f2 for nighttime.

glad you had a nice trip :)

More pics from DaHui Backdoor Shootout surf contest on Thursday, 1/11. Just a side note: 2 professional surfers were badly hurt last week from surfing these huge waves. One died and the other survived and hospitalized. If you are coming to the islands, please be very careful when approaching the shorelines.

Will be headed out to Oahu in about a week. Very excited to visit Hawaii for the first time and trying out my new ND filter from Breakthrough Photography.

Heading to Maui and the Big Island for the first time for 14 days in early-mid April four our (belated) honeymoon. One week on each island and two days on the Big Island staying in Volcano. Wife and I are planning on hiking, biking the crater, road to Hana, luau, general exploring of the islands, and doing all the touristy stuff and eating all the food. Maybe we will find a day or two to just sit on a beach too :)

I've got a Canon 70D with EF-S 17-55 and EF 70-300L. Any reason to bring anything else? My wife doesn't particularly like to model so I'm not sure if I'll be needing a flash. I've also rented an EF-S 10-22 in the past and had fun with it, but that was in old European cities, not sure if I'll need it in HI.

The 17-55 should get you a wide enough view. I brought my 10-22 one time and I'm glad I did. We were on Oahu up in the subdivisions above Waikiki and the views were amazing. I used the 10-22 at 10mm for quite a few shots. Also the lava fields on The Big Island are worthy of the 10-22. You might want to bring it along if you have the room in your camera bag for it.

CORRECTION: I have the Sigma 10-20. Not the Canon version. But it's still a great lens.
