or was it taken with your 600mm lens and somehow the metadata is wrong?
reason for asking is I was thinking about getting the Canon extender, but I've read some terrible reviews about what it does to autofocus.

If you have the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 I think you will lose autofocus at 400mm, unfortunately.

One of my best encounters with a very hungry Bald Eagle. It followed a Black-Bellied Whistling duck for a good 20 minutes. 10 minutes up in the air and 10 minutes diving in a pond in attack mode. It was all about the experience. ... the moment. All about being in the right place at the right time!

That first shot is great, but how do you do it, Bjarne? I see the bird coming towards me and lift the camera to my face. I keep both eyes open and line up with the pop-up flash and the rim of the lens hood, but by the time I get it in the viewfinder, the bird has either climbed too high, or is a disappearing speck!

I've never had much of a hit rate with BIFs so decided on a bit of practice this morning. Unfortunately it was a muggy day with no colour to the sky but anyways, my hit rate is improving

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Pure luck, BUT...! As one of my good "photofriends" says, the luck follows them who look for it...;o)) Plenty of ours looking for birds, and when you find an good area, then try to "read" the bird and then wait...! When I "wait" I have my gear ready on a steady tripod eventually in a hide or behind camouflage, so I donĀ“t have to lift my arms or make other major movements, when the bird arrive..., it is just to point an shot... That part is elementary ..., finding the good areas are hard work and it is a great help with a large network of friends with same passion. I have travelled hundred of kilometers for visiting an area with Montagus maybe ten times without a shot worth to show, and then suddenly next time I had the luck an could keep the shutter activated for an hour or two and had thousands of photos on the card...;o))
