Looks like we are depending on upside down man.

Good news, no clouds! Was/is beautiful! I have taken a bunch of photos but I won't 'develop' them until tomorrow. It's a pitty I left my tele-extenders at my dad's but I'm sure some will come out alright. I'm going out again later when the moon is at its darkest to take some more shots of the moon and stars around it. Happy days :)

Note to self..
When going out night shooting with a brand new camera, learn the f-ing thing. Total fail on the blood moon shoot this morning. Now I got to wait another 150 years for the next one. Also, why does Canon randomly change its mode of operation for no good reason, just to pi$$ me off? I should have run in and grabbed the 7D instead.

That's too bad! :( (I feel for you!) I kept swapping the 7D and 5D IV just too make sure something comes out alright. I don't think i'll wait until the eclipse comes off the moon in a few hours but you never know.

I think i'll be happy even if the photos didn't work out as It's totally cool without it. I had a hard time waking the kids to come and have a look, 5 times and only a chocolate biscuit (cookie) waved under the nose worked. They'll appreciate it eventually.

What's wrong with it? 1/2 second is along time for the moon? Looks Ok for this red.

Had the hardest time focusing. AF failed completely, would not focus on moon at all. When I switched to MF and tried live view I couldn't get the thing to zoom in 10x to get tat perfect focus. It was still pretty dark but those were the colors.

OK, it's 1.50 AM and couldn't help myself - here are some preliminary moon shots from the 7D only: :) I probably over processed them but I don't care :P

Maybe you have dud, there are some suspect 5D IV out there for focus problems (I hope not). Mine nailed it pretty quick, but maybe that could also be due to higher contrast as it was after sunset for me ?!?!? I also did live view just to make sure now and then, especially with the 7D.

No, not a dud, it is not a camera issue but inexperience on my part. In Dallas we did not have optimal viewing as the moon was low on the horizon just before sunrise so the moon was a bit blurry because of the low angle. Couple that wil me just learning the new locations of things and it was not my best effort.
