Haha thanks. Yes this was a pretty awesome scene in Whiting, Indiana which is just 12 miles SE from Chicago. I had seen photos of it on news channels on FB and had been waiting to see something like this in person for a long long time. High winds and single digit temps at the lake front cause this to happen, an ice storm. And this is what it leaves behind. I have many more images which I will share some here and there - a good number taken with the RX10IV so will post a few in that thread.

Here is a self-portrait:

Great shots!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I spent 9 hours chasing a pair of Juvenile Collared sparrowhawks today (first time I have ever seen one). Getting photos was obviously a high priority but just observing them was also worthwhile and surprisingly entertaining. This photo probably the best, at the 8 hour mark.

Well worth the effort Dave they have been avoiding me too for a long time; hopefully I wont have to wait too much longer.

Summary of the days observations:
I spent all day watching two Juvenile Collared sparrowhawks. I saw: A CS chase a Satin bowerbird who after fleeing stood it's ground and the CS backed off. About 20 Noisy miners chase off the CS. One of the CS chased a Currawong for about 200 metres before I lost sight of them. One of the CS swooped a perched Sulphur crested cockatoo, followed by the predictable screams of the cockies. At least 3 birds were caught and eaten. I suspect a butcherbird was looking for it's mate or offspring at one point, hanging around near the CS while it was eating. Late in the day there was a Currawong war. It ended up with 5 Currawongs vs the 1 CS. Easy to believe it was a game from the CS perspective, it would flee when the Currawongs swooped it but was chasing them much of the time too. Both CS called much of the day, the only noticeable break was about 20 minutes before the 'attack' on the cockies. Throughout the day they were probably a maximum 250 metres from the suspected nest.

Graham is very aware of the size of a Currawong. For those that are not, this photo shows that the Sparrowhawk is either stupid or made of the same stuff they made Chuck Norris with.

It was hard to like that one. I'll rephrase that: it was easy to like but hard to hit the like button because the baby gecko that's taken up residence on my screen is covering it. Hazards of the tropics.

When he (or she) was younger, a week or so ago, he'd chase the mouse cursor arrow around trying to catch it, and if I moved it quickly towards him he'd get scared and run away. But he's wiser now and just ignores it.

Oops, just realised this is the 5D MkIV thread. Sorry!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
