Just recently purchased the Magic Mole and I am wondering where it has been all my life! Love this thing!

No AF ( just manula)
No IS
You can get up to 5:1 magnification
focus only in short distance

Thanks! :p
sounds like this is a specialist glass.

Maybe I shall start with a 100mm Macro....

I have more shots at different focus planes for stacking but haven't tried that. They usually started melting slightly and thus, change shape so I don't know if I can cleanly align them. Next time, I need more light or to illuminate with a flash. I had the ISO at 3200 with my constant light source.

For outdoor use, do folks prefer a ring flash (like Canon's 14EX II) or a twin flash (like Canon's MT-26)?

I went for the twin flash because of:

a) the ring highlights created by a ring flash on very reflective surface (such as beetle electra)

b) more opportunities to control the lighting ratio and modelling

However many opt for a standard flash on a bracket with heavy diffusion with very good results. Much I think depends on the subject and what lighting you want.

Not many I think use the ring flash, It might be better for situations where the subject is on a very flat source and high magnification is needed, simply because the ring flash protrudes less in front of the lens. However I have to say I have never tried the ring flash.
