Lovely shot. How far around from the bridge did you walk to take it?

thanks for taking a look and thanks for the words!

hmmm the bridge I am not sure I remember that - I know we walked in towards the glacier for what seemed about 1 mile.

hope that gives you an idea but I do not remember a bridge being there - this is Jökulsárlón - maybe there is one on another side?

Sorry for not being clear. I meant the bridge between the lake and the ocean - you would have driven over it if you went around the northern side of the lake. But a mile sounds about right in any case. Thanks.

Some inconsiderate person has put a piling rig or similar in my sunset. Yeah, bit of cloning tool work required.

Nice! I would be happy with those shots, especially 1 and 2, in a BMW sales brochure!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Did you get nailed on the front plate? My friends M4 has a plate location kit to the side... Great shots, and that looks like a blast! Don't see any pumice/sand, so no rock chips and hopefully no slow drivers in your way!

Ugh... Used the center 9 points F8 ISO800 1/3200 + 1.4xIII...

Starting to lose faith in the Canon setup. Middle of the day, perfect light, he slowly glided off the tree and dropped, was able to get this shot and then once there was more tree in the backround, it OFCOURSE picks out the trees to focus on, then once he slowed even more to eye some prey, then it locked back on but was still blurry.

I think the best bird images have amazing backrounds, not just a sharp bird with a blue sky. This scenario has occurred so many times it's extremely frustrating. Is it based on the whole contrast thing taking precedent over the moving object? It does wonderful for perched birds, but once you have trees, it seems to jump to those.

I have it set on case 2 "Continue to track subjects, ignoring possible obstacles" Tracking Sensitivity +2, Accel./Dece. tracking -2, AF pt auto switching 0.

Open to suggestions, but I'd rather have less megapixels and a sharp image over 30-50 megapixels of blur, let along the wasted time on countless trips thinking that "well, maybe NEXT time, I'll get that shot...." Starting to think I should actually rent a Nikon setup with the new 100-500 lens and simply compare for FLIGHT shots with confusing backrounds. Again, backround = makes the shot, unless the bird has prey or it's doing something unique, otherwise, it's just another sharp bird photo, of which most of us move to more noble pursuits/wish to grow/avoid atrophy.
