I tried to match the luminosity of the various areas (his face, hre shin and her neck) as best as possible. I then worked to knock down the yellow of the bright areas. After that it was a matter of cleaning up the transition areas where the shadow met the light. Obviously working from a full res raw file would be prefered but this should show that it can be done. Here is a screenshot of my PS window to show you the different layers. Hopefully this gives you some ideas of how it can be done.
