In decent light an RX100 would be really nice to have. I enjoy using the aperture 35, 85, 135, but it also be helpful to be much less conspicuous at times. What I want is an RX100 that shoots silently and fast just like the a9 (no rolling shutter). If Sony rolled that out, I think I’d buy it right away.

David I think the 100v is very very quiet/leaf shutter eh....and leaf shutters are of course not completely oblivious to rolling but not so bad either, compared to e-shutter. The 100v has super fast read out speed too, remember the AF in it was the ground work for the a9.....but what do I know.

Thought of another approach for close close shots.
Camera on neck strap.
Camera is WiFi mode to your phone.
It looks like you are obliviously texting your girlfriend when you're
actually snapping pics.
the RX100 series would be idea for this I think.

I'm really not sure what street photography is, but I'm sure I'm not doing it right. :p Anyway, I just walking around trying to capture the feel of a place - the life and the dearth of it.

Vinz I just placed my Laowa 15/2 order from Adorama.
I'll be very very curious if the packaging has improved.

I'd really like to know, too. The warehouse are running a range of new test packaging scenarios. They've sent me some samples and I've given them my feedback, based on everything POTN members have told me.

If you get a minute to email me a picture of your package and any comments that would be great!

I'm doing ok with G.A.S but am suffering more from location acquisition syndrome, meaning I want to travel more. There are so many places on my list that I want to visit but it's not possible right now. Japan, Thailand, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Patagonia, Alaska, Pac Northwest, Vancouver, Zion, Death Valley, London, Chicago, Dubai all sound amazing to me.

Edit: Add Scotland to the list too!

oooohhhh Edinburgh is beautiful. there's a separate city underneath. it was cool to see! name is Mary kings close if I remember correctly.

take a bus and visit roslyn chapel as well

If i'm going to Japan, I will definitely want a 16-35.

cheers on the planned trip. that's very exciting!

Kyoto should be on your list :)

definitely and please don't hop around too much like 1 day Tokyo then 1 day Kyoto. you'll miss a lot of stuff. Japan is so nice that I feel lucky I'm 4 hours away. I can keep going back there it's wonderful. sapporo might be another nice place. friends wanted to go there December I told them it might be a bad idea due to extreme cold. we are tropical so we aren't built for such weather hehehe

I tried my hand at shooting some street photography after work today. I only used my Zeiss 35 manual focus lens. I’m not entirely sure what constitutes street photography. Is it shooting interesting people or shooting people doing interesting things or is it finding something else? I struggled but I also found the whole experience very engaging because it was something out of comfort zone. Anyway, I’m working on some images and will share those soon.

did you zone focus a lot?

street photography is what started me in photography

..
to me it has been the most challenging..but the most satisfying ..
at first i was just happy to get a picture in focus.. composed properly.. and then i realized i was taking photos of nothing..

then i started hunting for "Life's moments"

my best work was with my t4i and 24-70 2.8 mkii..not the ideal discreet setup .. but simply because i went out twice a week minimum and spent hours each time wandering the streets..

i believe we can all capature lucky shots .. in any style of photography ..
but i believe with street photography that "luck" is a bit more relevant .. of course skill plays a role .. a big role

lately I've been trying zone focusing .. to get a bit more in there .. hasn't worked out well so far as i'm not doing it enough to figure out where exactly to be .. or how close to get without disturbing the scene or being out of focus

I think you get better at judging distance the more you do it. also it might be good to practice memorizing the barrel of your focus ring a tab ring might be useful. what I mean by that is for example you set your zone to 10 feet away from you and dof of 4 feet (numbers are made up for example) you can determine how much twist of the focus ring will bring that to 5 feet away with 2 foot dof.

with the tab ring you can even do something like if the tab is at the bottom of the lens then it's 10 feet 4 foot dof. if you move that tab ring so that it is now at the right of the lens then it's 5 feet with 2 foot dof.

here's a tab ring sample

Not really. I just anticipated the scene and prefocosed in most cases. I’ll need to keep practicing and getting closer.

How do you guys focus to infinity manually? I used the focus zoom last night, but I missed having the distance scale on the lens like I had with my vintage glass I used to use. I was also curious how many shots everyone uses with the SR app? I don't have filters for my new lens, so I was just trying different things out.
