Hope you don't mind me sharing my terrific day with you......

I Decided to take a day off work as the weather forecast said Sun. My Plan was to visit 6 sites in Gloucestershire. On my journey up the M5 the sky turned grey and it started to snow. I almost turned around. However, when I arrived at my first site at Sharpness Docks the snow had stopped.

I saw my first bird a Great Northern Diver. I then moved onto Slimbridge, lots of waders….. Golden Plover, redshank, Curlews, Dunlin, Oystercatchers, water rail, snipe, ruff and a lovely little stint. A Kingfisher constantly flying pass at high speed very low of which I was not quick enough to get a photo.

I then moved onto Arlingham to see the Richards’s Pipit. It was a long muddy tiring trek but managed to get some big crop shots of it. Back to the car something to eat and drink then onto Longford to see the Penduline Tit. The light had got so much better with bouts of sun. It was showing incredibly well and by now was use to people going to see it over the pass 6 weeks. Such a beautiful bird.

Quickly moved onto RSPB Highnam Woods, lots of Nuthatches and a Siskin as well as a G.S. Woodpecker. Then straight down the A48 and spent an hour at RSPB Nagshead in the Forest of Dean where I saw hawfinches, a distant crossbill and a rear end of a wild boar.

Such a great day, 120 miles covered, 41 bird species seen and 500+ photo’s (will probably only keep around 30). My Personal best bird of the day being the Little Stint.

Well done Jack, Tawneys are really hard to spot, so cryptic and camouflaged.

Thanks!
