finally finally got my front filter from optosigma, what a hassle that was. End result, 35 f1.7 with hobbled AF that's pretty flat field and sharp across the frame wide open.

I'm sure sigma will be released any minute now :-P.

On another note, the front filter assembly is butt ugly compared to the lens (chrome finish).

Not even sure how much I'll be using this setup, the coolness appeal of the voigtlander is largely diminished -?

Got a question for those of you that import and file by date i.e folders named like 2018-02-12 for example (Ive only just started doing this in 2018). If you go on a trip that spans multiple days do you keep a folder for each day or do you copy all images into the one trip folder using say the first date? I cant decide what way I want to do this going forward

for flexibility and easy search by eye, I can do multiple ways

Import may yield folders

2017-09-29
2017-09-30
2017-10-01

I rename them to

2017-09-29_Fiesta_Day_1
2017-09-30_Fiesta_Day_2
2017-10-01_Fiesta_Day_3

sometimes, I shoot 2 things in a day and I can split the exports as well

I'll do first export with only one event, then rename the folder. Next event, then rename the folder again, like:

2018-01-01_Grandma_Birthday
and
2018-01-01_Family_Portraits

For really long vacations, I may opt for a different strategy and mix and match:

2015-08-03_Australia_Start
2015-08-04
2015-08-05_Perth
2015-08-06_Sydney
...
2015-08-30_Australia_End

I find that when I do it this way, I can visually scan a whole year pretty fast and find old photos easily.

some people tag up all their photos for an easier search, however that seemed a little tedious, and I really dont do that much more.

Charlie thankyou!! This is exactly what I was after. I like your method for importing multiple things on the same day, I hadn’t thought of doing it that way. I’m going to adopt a few of your ideas here

I post 95% of my shots in folders by season. (Winter_17.18 or Summer_18) Unless I do a paid shoot, or a special vacation, then it goes in its own folder. When I add photos to a folder I head to LR immediately and "Sync Folder". Seem to work out OK for me.

My shared folder is this way for pictures on the HTPC. It's easier to navigate by remote, however for a library, it's way too simplistic if you shoot a lot.

Sessions manager in C1 scared the crap out of me, so I'm glad that my folder management worked out for me. It's cross platform, works on either lightroom or C1 libraries, although C1 takes much more fiddling to get the initial setup to work like lightroom.

My video library is handled differently. I simply use the date naming convention of the file, and append the description and toss all in a single folder. It works out well even with a few decades worth of videos.

I have a folder for each year. Inside that I have folders for each month. If I do a special trip with a lot of pics it'll have it's own folder, i.e. a family vacation. I can usually find what I'm looking for with this method.

Main directory folder for the year.

Inside that a folder for any outing or shoot, named according to what it is or where. places I go often have dated subfolders.

Paid work gets a designation at the front of the folder so that all paid work is grouped together.
