A Palanquin. Palanquins are mentioned in literature as early as the Ramayana (c. 250 BC). Indian women of rank always traveled by palanquin. The conveyance proved popular with European residents in India, and was used extensively by them. This one was used to carry the Duke of Northumberland (NE England) in the 17th Cent.

Challenge now closed and with only two entries it makes my job simple.

Jim's bike takes top spot, looking as if it came straight off duty with all the trimmings.

Stiga, your splendiforous palanquin might have been my choice but something strange has gone on with the lady on the phone and her ghost on the extreme right, also something wrong (cloning job?) at the right side of the arched doorway, which spoils it. Sorry.

Don't know why not more entries as I had thought people might go and get good ideas from the successful recent competition with the same subject in the Competitions forum.

Thanks Teekay for the 1st place nod and congrats to Martin for his entry!

I am in an all day and evening meeting with my company. I’ll post up a new contest late tonight.

Heads up...the theme will be “post your favorite photo taken in 2017”. Tell why it is your favorite in your title. More details to follow.

This is a theme everyone can enter unless your camera set on the shelf all year :-)

Some trivia about WWII motorcycles. The throttle is on the left handlebar not the right as is standard for motorcycles. Why? This so the cyclist can accelerate with his left hand while firing his weapon with his right hand...this because most folks are right handed and would fire their weapon using that hand...now you know :-)
